Mumbai, Jun 23: A 26-year-old tempo driver, Wasim Shaikh, was arrested within two hours of allegedly strangling his wife, Gausiya (24), at their home in Bhagat Singh Nagar slum, Goregaon West, following a domestic dispute.

According to police, the incident occurred on Monday after Wasim demanded money from Gausiya to buy alcohol. When she refused, he strangled her in a fit of rage. He then called his mother-in-law to inform her of the crime and fled the scene.

Bangur Nagar police launched a swift manhunt. Though Shaikh had switched off his phone, investigators tracked his movements along the railway network. He was eventually found and apprehended near Ram Mandir station.

Shaikh was produced before a magistrate and remanded in police custody. The case was cracked by sub-inspector Piyush Tare and his team under the guidance of Senior Inspector Anil Thackeray and DCP Anant Bhoite.
