Mangaluru, Jun 9: The members of the Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh® – Bondel unit gathered at the St Lawrence Kannada Medium School hall for a noble cause — the distribution of school uniforms to underprivileged students on On Monday, June 9. The programme commenced on a graceful note with a heartfelt prayer song rendered by the school children, setting a reverent and hopeful tone for the event.
Sujay D'Silva, president of the Catholic Sabha Bondel Unit, warmly welcomed all the dignitaries and attendees. In a thoughtful and eco-friendly gesture, the Catholic Sabha members welcomed the guests on the dais with flower saplings symbolizing growth, care, and a greener future.


















Dignitaries on the dais included James Cutinha – Block Education Officer (BEO) Walter Nandalike – managing director, Daijiworld media, Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza – parish priest, Bondel & director, Catholic Sabha, Fr Peter Gonsalves – principal, St Lawrence English Medium School, Fr Lawrence Cutinha – assistant parish priest, Bondel, Joachim Stany Alvares – president, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Helen Mary Fernandes – headmistress, St Lawrence Kannada Medium School, John D'Silva – representative, Parish Pastoral Council, Sujay D'Silva – president, and Olivia D’Sa – secretary Catholic Sabha Bondel Unit.
Walter Nandalike delivered an inspiring message emphasizing gratitude, hard work, and giving back to society.
He encouraged students to accept help humbly and strive for excellence in their education. He reminded them that Kannada medium students can aim high, noting that prestigious exams like the UPSC can be written in Kannada. Many who studied in Kannada medium have gone on to hold top positions. He urged students to aspire for government jobs and work sincerely toward their goals. Highlighting the importance of respecting teachers, he said, "Today, you stand and greet your teachers. Tomorrow, when you rise in life, your teachers will honour you." He concluded by urging the children to dream big, respect others, and follow the Catholic Sabha’s example of compassion and service.
James Cutinha, Block Education Officer (BEO), congratulated the Catholic Sabha Bondel Unit for their noble act of distributing uniforms to underprivileged students. He praised the spirit of giving, especially by those from modest backgrounds, and reminded students to value such support. He shared a powerful message: "Donors are like pencils they help shape your future and give you the chance to learn, grow, and improve." He urged students to respect their benefactors, take their education seriously, and give back to society when they are able. Linking the occasion with Environment Day, he encouraged everyone to keep their surroundings clean and green. He concluded by saluting the Catholic Sabha for their meaningful contribution to education.
Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza parish priest of Bondel church, congratulated the Catholic Sabha for their generous and meaningful initiative. He praised the spirit of gratitude shown by former students now giving back to their alma mater. Donating uniforms, he said, reflects not just support but unity and a deep commitment to education. He encouraged students to value Kannada medium education and remember to help others when they succeed. Fr Andrew concluded by stressing that education is the key to a better future and a life of service. He concluded by congratulating the Catholic Sabha Bondel Unit for their meaningful and selfless contribution to society.
Chief guest Walter Nandalike, James Cutinha, and Fr Andrew Leo D’Souza distributed school uniforms to respective school heads from 3rd to 4th–5th, and up to 7th standard during their speeches, A total of 172 students were given uniforms by the Catholic Sabha Bondel Unit during the event.
Fr Peter Gonsalves felicitated former headmaster Denis Neri D’Souza with a sapling in recognition of his generous service to the school, along with all the donors who contributed to this noble cause. As a token of gratitude, Fr Peter presented roses to each donor. In appreciation of their selfless service, the headmistress, Helen, on behalf of St Lawrence Kannada Medium School, presented a sapling to the Catholic Sabha members to honor their noble initiative of donating uniforms to the students.
Teacher Lavina gave a brief report on the school's progress, and headmistress Helen delivered the vote of thanks. Wilfred Alvares served as the compere of the programme; the programme concluded with the National Anthem.
Snacks were distributed to all attendees, including students and parents, making it a truly memorable and meaningful day.
