Pune, Jun 8: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the new administrative building of the Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA) in Aundh on Sunday, praising the agency’s pioneering work in the renewable energy sector.

Addressing the media after the inauguration, Fadnavis lauded MEDA’s contributions, noting that Maharashtra now leads the country in solar energy generation, particularly through distributed power models. He described the newly constructed complex as an exemplary ‘green building’ that aligns with the state’s commitment to sustainable development.

In a post on social media platform X, Fadnavis shared a video of the inauguration and wrote, “Based on eco-friendly (green building), Super E.C.B.C. and Net Zero concept, it reflects the commitment to clean energy and decarbonisation, meeting every green building benchmark.”

In the video, the Chief Minister is seen inspecting the facility, reviewing MEDA’s achievements, and receiving briefings from officials about future renewable energy initiatives. He emphasized the government’s plan to solarize all state government offices and to roll out an ambitious drive to promote the PM Surya Ghar Yojana among residents.

Highlighting Maharashtra’s achievements under the PM-KUSUM scheme, Fadnavis noted, “We have installed 5 lakh solar pumps—more than the combined total of 4 lakh pumps installed in the rest of the country.” He further announced an ambitious goal: to meet 100% of the state’s agricultural power demand through solar energy by December 2026, which he said would result in significant cost savings.

Expressing confidence that Maharashtra will lead the country in achieving the national target of 50% renewable electricity by 2030, as outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Fadnavis reaffirmed his government’s commitment to this goal.

The new MEDA building, with its cutting-edge eco-friendly design and advanced energy efficiency features, stands as a testament to Maharashtra’s leadership in renewable energy and sustainable development, the Chief Minister said.
