Thane, Jun 6: In a shocking domestic violence incident, a 48-year-old autorickshaw driver in Thane district suffered serious burn injuries after his wife allegedly poured hot oil on him during a heated argument.

The incident occurred around 2:30 am on Wednesday at the couple’s residence near Memon Masjid in Kalyan, police officials confirmed on Friday.

According to Bazarpeth police, the victim Imran Abdul Ghaffar Sheikh and his wife were embroiled in a dispute over domestic matters, which quickly escalated. In a moment of rage, the woman reportedly threw boiling oil on Sheikh, leaving him with burns on his head, face, eyes, and hands.

Sheikh is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital, and his condition is being closely monitored.

“We are in the process of recording statements from neighbours and other potential witnesses to reconstruct the sequence of events,” said a police officer from Bazarpeth police station.

“Appropriate legal action will follow upon completion of the preliminary investigation,” he added.
