Heavy monsoon rains to lash Karnataka again; alert issued for over 20 districts

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Jun 5: The southwest monsoon is set to intensify across Karnataka starting Thursday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing rain alerts for more than 20 districts. The renewed downpour follows a brief lull, after heavy rains in late May led to several incidents and disruptions across the state.

According to IMD forecasts, the monsoon has already entered the state ahead of its usual schedule, bringing relief to farmers who have now begun sowing operations in full swing. However, the renewed intensity has also raised concerns about flooding and landslides, especially in coastal regions.

Rain alerts have been issued for Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, Yadagir, and Ballari.

In addition, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in Davanagere, Hassan, Ramanagara, Shivamogga, Tumakuru, Kolar, Mandya, and Mysuru districts.

With the onset of monsoon rains, fears of flooding and landslides have already gripped residents of the coastal belt. Continuous rainfall in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts has raised alarms. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Uttara Kannada and Kodagu, warning of heavy rains accompanied by thunder and strong winds. Landslide threats in Kodagu have also resurfaced.

Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Mandya, and Mysuru are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall. Precautionary measures have been advised in these regions.

The IMD has urged residents across affected districts to stay alert and take necessary precautions as heavy monsoon showers are likely to continue in the coming days.
