Mangaluru, May 31: In a compelling display of youth-led compassion, Biruver Kudla, a Mangaluru-based social service organisation, has joined hands with the newly established Karunya Setu Foundation to deliver meaningful aid to marginalised communities. The joint initiative was launched at Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha Temple, where support worth over Rs 5 lac —including artificial limbs and financial assistance — was distributed to beneficiaries battling illness, disability, and financial hardship.
Speaking at the event, former BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel praised the initiative and the spirit behind it. “Biruver Kudla is a shining example of what dedicated youth can achieve when united for a noble cause. With Swasthik Arya of Karunya Setu Foundation joining hands, this collaboration is sure to continue wiping the tears of the helpless,” he said. “May Brahmashri Narayana Guru bless these young changemakers with the strength to serve society with even greater conviction,” he added.

Dr Bharath Shetty Y, MLA, commended the organisation for launching Spandana, a monthly support initiative providing regular aid to the underprivileged. “This is a model effort that shows how youth-led collectives can become a lifeline for those in need. I wish Biruver Kudla even greater strength and reach in the future,” he said.
The event drew participation from several dignitaries including MLA Harish Poonja, temple administrator Sai Ram, treasurer Padmaraj, and former Zilla Panchayat president Mamatha Gatti, all of whom extended their best wishes to the volunteers and beneficiaries.
Sahana Kundar Sooda delivered a detailed presentation on the evolution and growth of Biruver Kudla, noting that both organisations were now better positioned to serve the community with greater impact and consistency.
Also, present at the event were Uday Poojary Ballalbagh, founder and guiding force behind Biruver Kudla, and Swasthik Arya, founder of Karunya Setu Foundation. They were joined by Rakesh Poojary, current president of Biruver Kudla, and community leaders including Jitesh Jain, Darshan Jain, Yashwanth Mendon (President, Boluru Mogaveera Sabha), Praveen Bangambila, and a host of BJP leaders and well-wishers.
Beneficiaries of the aid drive
Among those who received assistance were Shankar Acharya, who was provided with an artificial limb, and three kidney failure patients—Bhushan, Swathi, and Sabitha Shankar—from Dare Bail, Konchady, and Ashoknagar. Cancer patient Manjula Karkera also received aid, along with the family of late comedian Rakesh, who was given a condolence fund after his sudden demise due to a cardiac arrest.
Additional support was extended to Dhanalakshmi Punchame, whose house was damaged by floods, Pranaya Devadiga who is suffering from a rare blood disorder, and Srinivas Kulal of Pachanady, who is battling a heart condition.
Transforming lives at scale
The organisations announced that Biruver Kudla, through its various service wings, has so far disbursed over Rs 10 crore in aid to disadvantaged families across the region. Monthly financial assistance of Rs 50,000 is regularly provided to individuals requiring urgent medical care. The group also runs a free ambulance service for emergency medical transport.
Currently operating across three districts with 24 active service units, Biruver Kudla continues to set a benchmark for grassroots social impact. The collective functions under the inclusive principle of “One caste, one religion, one God,” as advocated by Brahmashri Narayana Guru—emphasising unity, equality, and humanity above all.
Their consistent, caste-free, and compassion-led approach has already begun inspiring other youth collectives and service-minded organisations to emulate their model. With momentum building, the partnership between Biruver Kudla and Karunya Setu Foundation seems poised to reach even more lives in the days to come.
