Panaji, May 27: In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a nationwide tourism surge and his “one state, one global destination” vision, the Goa government has announced plans to elevate a single landmark into a world-class attraction.
Speaking after a NITI Aayog meeting in New Delhi, chief minister Pramod Sawant revealed that his administration has tasked the tourism department with shortlisting a prime location—be it a beach or another scenic spot—for comprehensive upgradation. “We will install best-in-class amenities and infrastructure to ensure the site meets international standards,” he said.
This initiative dovetails with Goa’s broader “Vikasit Goa 2037” roadmap, which was also discussed at the NITI Aayog gathering. The strategy revolves around strengthening five core pillars:
1. Physical Infrastructure: Upgrading roads, utilities, and public spaces
2. Economic Infrastructure: Attracting investment, boosting trade, and promoting entrepreneurship
3. Environmental Infrastructure: Safeguarding ecology while expanding amenities
4. Social Infrastructure: Enhancing healthcare, public safety, and community services
5. Educational Infrastructure: Expanding schools, vocational training, and digital learning platforms
Chief Minister Sawant emphasized that agriculture, education, and sustainable development will drive the state’s growth trajectory, with a special focus on digital infrastructure. He also affirmed Goa’s commitment to the national goal of ‘TB Mukt Bharat by 2025’, pledging intensified efforts to eradicate tuberculosis within the state.
In a bid to stimulate both foreign and domestic investment, Sawant announced forthcoming amendments to the state’s Ease of Doing Business regulations. The changes aim to streamline procedures and open the door to increased FDI and local capital, further fueling Goa’s development ambitions.
With these measures—anchored by a flagship tourism upgrade—Goa seeks to showcase its unique heritage on the global stage and accelerate its journey toward becoming a fully “viksit” (developed) state by 2047.
