Bengaluru, May 25: A 54-year-old software engineer from Kathriguppe, Bengaluru, faced a nightmare upon returning from a wedding trip, discovering that burglars had broken into his multi-storey residence and made away with valuables worth Rs 37.8 lac.
According to a complaint lodged by Vishwanath S D, a resident of 4th Block, Kathriguppe in Banashankari III Stage, he and his wife had left their home at 12:45 pm on May 21 to attend a wedding in Chikkamagaluru. When they returned at around 11:15 pm on May 22, they were greeted by signs of forced entry and a ransacked home.

The couple opened the main door only to find the door to the first-floor room wide open. Cupboards and wardrobes had been broken into, and their contents, including clothes and household items, were scattered across the floor.
Lockers and drawers had been forcefully opened. Suspecting a burglary, Vishwanath proceeded to check the upper levels and found the third-floor terrace door ajar.
They then examined their CCTV footage and were shocked to find that at around 8:15 pm on May 21, miscreants had entered the house through the third-floor terrace. The burglars had cunningly redirected the CCTV camera to face a corner, preventing the footage from capturing their movements clearly.
Among the items stolen were Rs 24 lac in cash, several gold earrings and necklaces, pearl necklaces, pearl beads, silver coins weighing 1.5 kilos, and silver jewellery. The total estimated value of the stolen goods is Rs 37.8 lac.
Police were alerted and visited the residence to examine the scene. They collected crucial evidence, including fingerprints, and have launched an investigation into the theft. Authorities are reviewing the CCTV footage for additional clues and have assured that efforts are underway to track down the culprits.
