Kasargod: Two children drown in pond, one critical

Kasargod, May 22: In a tragic incident, two children drowned in a pond at Manikkoth in Kanhangad this evening. Another child is in critical condition and has been admitted to the hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Afaz (9), son of Azeez from Palekki, and Anwar (11), son of Haidar. Anwar’s brother Hashim, who is in serious condition, has been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru.

The incident occurred around 4 pm while the children were taking a bath in the pond near the Palekki mosque in Manikkoth.

Though locals, fire and emergency services personnel, and police managed to pull the children out of the water, two of them had already died. The bodies have been shifted to the district hospital mortuary.
