Bengaluru, May 16: With pre-monsoon showers gaining strength across Karnataka, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall on May 17 (Saturday) in 15 districts, including key coastal regions such as Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.
A yellow alert has been issued for all affected districts, and forecasts indicate the possibility of continued heavy downpours over the next four days.

The districts placed under yellow alert for Saturday include Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Bagalkot, Dharwad, Gadag, Koppal, Vijayapura, Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Kolar, Mandya, Ramanagara, and Tumakuru. The alert underscores the likelihood of moderate to heavy rainfall, potentially leading to water-logging and localised disruptions.
In addition to the Saturday alert, six districts — Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Kolar, Chitradurga, Chikkaballapur, and Tumakuru — are expected to witness persistent heavy rain until May 20. These areas could experience prolonged rainfall activity, which may affect daily life and transportation.
The IMD has advised residents in the affected regions to exercise caution. Citizens are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, clear drainage systems in vulnerable areas, and stay alert for water-logging and tree fall incidents. Educational institutions and public transport services may be disrupted due to the weather conditions.
