Dubai RTA slashes driving licence services by 53% in major digital overhaul

Dubai, May 15: In a move to streamline and digitize public services, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has reduced its driving licence-related services from 33 to just 15, marking a 53% cut in procedures as part of its digital transformation agenda.

The initiative aligns with the Government of Dubai’s ‘Services 360’ strategy, aimed at delivering seamless, smart, and integrated digital experiences for residents and businesses alike.

Sultan Al Akraf, director of Driver Licence Services at the RTA, explained that the revamp is designed to enhance customer journeys, minimize in-person visits, and boost efficiency through advanced technology and data integration.

“By consolidating services into a unified smart platform, we’re simplifying steps, reducing waiting times, and improving service quality for everyone,” Al Akraf said.

Key services streamlined:

• Applying for or renewing a driving licence
• Adding vehicle categories
• Transferring training files between institutes
• Updating personal details
• Requesting replacements for lost/damaged licences

All revamped services are now accessible via the RTA website and mobile app, with proactive notifications to guide users — removing the need for physical visits and reinforcing Dubai’s push toward smart governance and sustainability.
