Begusarai, May 4: The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme has emerged as a financial lifeline for small and marginal farmers in urban and semi-urban areas, particularly in Bihar’s Begusarai district, where beneficiaries say the direct cash support has helped them break free from the cycle of debt and dependence on moneylenders.
Under the scheme, eligible farmers receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal installments of Rs 2,000 each. For many, this timely financial aid has proven crucial during the sowing and harvesting seasons, helping them meet essential expenses without waiting for the sale of crops.

Vidyanand Singh, a resident of Sihma village in Matihani block, said, “Earlier I had to take loans or buy inputs on credit for farming. But, since the Prime Minister started giving Rs 6,000 under PM-KISAN, we no longer need loans and can buy fertilisers and seeds on time.”
Amar Kumar, a 50-year-old farmer from the same village, shared similar sentiments. “I have started receiving three installments of Rs 2,000 a year. This has helped us a lot. Now, we don’t have to depend on others even for small expenses,” he said.
Another small farmer, 55-year-old Shyam Sundar Singh, also from Sihma village, noted that he previously had to borrow money to buy fertilisers, seeds, and for other farming needs. “After I started getting money under PM-KISAN, I’ve stopped taking loans and I am even able to save a bit. I’m grateful to the Prime Minister as he thinks a lot about farmers,” he said.
Echoing their voices, another villager, Chandan, said, “Farmers had to face many difficulties, especially during floods and droughts, but ever since we started receiving money under PM-KISAN, we are very happy.”
“We are eternally grateful to PM Modi, who thinks so much about the farmers,” he added.
The PM-KISAN scheme continues to gain praise at the grassroots level for its direct benefit transfer mechanism, which ensures that funds reach the beneficiaries without delay or middlemen. For countless farmers in Bihar and across India, the scheme is not just financial support—it is a symbol of recognition and empowerment.
