Bengaluru, May 21: A meeting to review the progress in the implementation of the Yetthinahole project for supplying water to parched Kolar and other districts was convened by State Government’s Delhi representative T B Jayachandra in Bengaluru on Tuesday. A modification of the project to fill up the 200 tanks in Tumkuru district’s Sira taluk was suggested.

Jayachandra, who is MLA from Sira constituency, said the Coordination Committee on Implementation of the Yetthinahole project must be asked to recast the project to benefit irrigation in the Sira taluk.

Visveswaraya Jal Nigam Managing Director Sannachittaiah, Chief Engineer Varadayya, Executive Engineer Anand Kumar and Assistant Commissioner Yogesh as well as the Technical Advisor to Deputy Chief Minister and Water Resources Department Minister D K Shivakumar’s Technical Advisor K Jayaprakash attended the meeting.

The meeting felt that the project in its present form envisages supply of drinking water to 200 tanks in the Sira town with allocation of 0.514 tmc of water. As this does not help the people much, it should be modified to fill up the 200 tanks in the taluks.

The officials present in the meeting promised to take up the project at the meeting of the Implementation Committee.

The Visveswaraya Jal Nigam officials promised to hold a meeting with Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department officials next month.

Jayachandra asked the officials to expedite the Yetthinaholeproject to ensure water to the drought prone districts. He also reviewed the programke in the Upper Bhadra Canal Project work.
