70 DK PU colleges honoured for 100% results at Teachers’ Day event in Ujire

Beltangady, Oct 6: “Ensuring education and healthcare for everyone is the aspiration of the government. There is a shortage of teachers in government schools. Through life education, the Dharmasthala Rural Development Project has laid the foundation for women to lead self-reliant lives,” said MLC S L Bhoje Gowda.

He was speaking after inaugurating the district-level Teachers’ Day celebration jointly organised by the Dakshina Kannada District Pre-University College Principals’ Association and SDM Pre-University College at the Indraprastha Auditorium in Ujire.

Speaking on the occasion, D Harshendra Kumar, Secretary of SDM Educational Institutions, said, “Teachers have the responsibility of shaping the bright future of students. In today’s times, teachers must work tirelessly to help children move away from the excessive influence of social media and ensure their holistic development.”

Ibrahim, lecturer at Uppinangady College and recipient of the State-Level Best Lecturer Award; Harish N, working president of the Association of Employees of Aided Pre-University Colleges; and Vittal A, joint secretary of the Karnataka State Pre-University College Lecturers’ Association, were felicitated on the occasion.

Principals and staff members of 70 colleges in the district that achieved 100 per cent results were also honored.

The district-level Best Teacher Award recipients were felicitated as well. They included Jayananda N Suvarna, principal of Government Pre-University College, Nalyapadavu; Premanath Shetty, physical education director of Swami Vivekananda Pre-University College, Edapadavu; Subrahmanya, lecturer at Canara College, Mangaluru; Poornima D Shetty, principal of Vishwa Mangala Pre-University College, Konaje; V Kiran Shetty, lecturer at St Aloysius College, Mangaluru; and Anita V Jain, office superintendent at Alva’s College.

During the valedictory programme, Sonia Yashovarma distributed prizes to the winners of the cultural competitions.

Dr Naveen Shetty K, president of the Dakshina Kannada District Pre-University College Principals’ Association, presided over the programme.

Deputy director of the Dakshina Kannada District Pre-University Education Department Rajeshwari H H, Dr Harish N, Ananda P, Nithin BT, Somashekara Nayak, Hariprakash B, Duggappa N, Pooran Varma, Prof Vishwanath P, Sumanth Kumar Jain, Dr Sarojini Achar, Seema AK, Joston Lobo, Rakshith Kulal, George T S, Sandhya P, AS Adarsh, Dr S N Venkatesh Nayak, Jayanti K, H K Prakash, Hemalatha B D, Desmond Edward D’Mello, Shobha, Prabha Hegde K, Dr Puttaswamy, Gangadhar Alva, Shekhar Rai and Yusuf Vitla were present.

Pramod Kumar B, principal of SDM Pre-University College, welcomed the gathering, while Mamatha A, principal of Kavoor College, proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Mahaveer Jain, professor at SDM College; Umesh, lecturer at Balmata College; and SDM College lecturers Niharika G N and Seema P compered the programme.
