Udupi: Special monitoring of poll expenses of candidates must - Expenditure Inspector

Udupi, April 13: State Special Expenditure Inspector B Murali Kumar has instructed the officials assigned to monitor the election expenses to strictly perform their duties so that elections can be conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner.

He was presiding over the meeting conducted with the District Enforcement Nodal Officers regarding the election expenses at the Rajathadri Deputy Commissioner  Office, Manipal.  

“At least three checkposts should be opened in an area of the assembly  and checks should be intensified at the checkposts where materials including money should be thoroughly checked,” he said. He also said that information should be given to the election expense inspectors.

Murali Kumar said awareness should be created about Cvigil app, which has been designed to curb election encroachment and information should be given to the public as to how to upload complaints.

“Systematic education about voting among the voters and raising awareness among the public about participation in the voting process should increase the voting percentage,” he told the officials and also directed to provide shade, drinking water and other necessary basic facilities for the public in the background of the scorching summer heat in the polling stations.

Deputy Commissioner and district election officer Dr K Vidya Kumari explained in detail about the preparedness to conduct elections and the appointment of various teams as directed by the Election Commission to ensure transparency in election process in the district.

In the meeting, district expenditure commissioner Alok Kumar M C, nodal officer and SVEEP committee chairman Prateek Bayal and coastal  security police superintendent of police Mithun, DF Ganapathy, additional deputy commissioner Mamata Devi , additional superintendent of police Siddalingappa and nodal officers of various committees among others were present.

 After the meeting, Murali Kumar visited the district media certification and monitoring office, social media monitoring office, election office control room and Cvigil centre.
