Court grants bail to Wadala man, flags lapses in wife’s death probe

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, Oct 2: A sessions court has pulled up police for lapses in the investigation while granting bail to a Wadala man accused of beating his wife to death in March this year following a dispute over liquor consumption.

Additional Sessions Judge Ganesh P Deshmukh observed that Mahesh Wad, 34, had been in custody since March 18 and that the investigation record contained several shortcomings relevant to the consideration of his bail application.

The court noted that police had failed to record the statements of close relatives of both Wad and his wife, as well as those of witnesses to the alleged assault.

It also pointed out that the chargesheet did not include the postmortem examination report. Instead, only a provisional cause of death certificate had been placed on record.
