Udupi: Woman defrauded of Rs 4.96 lac by impostor posing as London-based doctor

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (EP)

Udupi, Feb 23: An unidentified individual, masquerading as a London-based doctor, has perpetrated a fraud, swindling a woman here of Rs 4.96 lac.

Vinita, a Malpe resident and business partner, encountered this individual online in pursuit of continuing her business ventures.

On January 24, 2024, Vinita engaged in a WhatsApp conversation with an individual claiming to be a doctor based in London. During the exchange, the imposter mentioned plans to visit India from London.

On February 2, 2024, at 10:30 am, Vinita received a phone call from a different number. The caller, purporting to be a friend of the supposed doctor, claimed to be calling from the Delhi Airport Authority. They conveyed that the doctor was detained by airport authorities and required payment of a penalty for release.

Fearing legal ramifications by the Government of India, Vinita transferred Rs 4,96,000 from her Canara Bank account via phone pay from February 16 to 20, 2024.

A case regarding this incident has been lodged at the Malpe police station.

Sorry for the lady. But its her own fault. To a completely stranger from other end of world ,only by talking on phone ,doesnt become any relation or doctor ,Professor. And third person calling and asking money should be a hint for a fake person and cheating.First clear whether it is true or not ,then proceed money with delay.Find out fromto be a Airport? ,whether it is true.Ask Police for help.Such a huge amount? She must work for that long time.

There are plenty of fake accounts in social media be it Facebook, twitter, Instagram or any social media app. They pose as Doctors, Pilots from foreign countries & they mainly target women by sending friend requests. If accepted, this fake Doctor or Pilot conversation goen on & end up by women losing money to them & everything stops then. How come educated people are fooled so easily? You should fool them.
