Mangaluru: Smart City project to be inspected every fortnight

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Oct 17: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that the progress assessment of Smart City project related works will be held every 15 days. Meeting of the departments which are posing hurdles in work will be held. On October 17, first such meeting will be held, said the MP.

Nalin inspected various works related to Smart City project earlier. He instructed the contractors and officials to complete the same within the specified time period.

The inspection of concrete road work at Pumpwell, connecting road work and railway underground bridge at Mahakalipadpu, Riverfront project at Mulihitlu, international swimming pool at Emmekere and surgical block at Wenlock hospital were done by the MP.

Nalin said, “Rs 1000 crore worth projects are approved from the union government for developing Mangaluru into the Smart City project. Out of these, works amounting to Rs 745 crore are completed. Rs 831 crore direct grant is also given. At present, 55 projects are completed and 33 are underway. Four works will be done under the PPP model.

“The railway under bridge work of Mahakalipadpu will be completed during March 2024. The concrete connecting road work is in progress. Instructions are given to complete the same by January 2024. This will be used as bypass road to Mangaluru market,” he said.

Belated thought to fool public. If he was so much concerned to speed up the work he should have acted in the beginning itself. This has also happened to Pumpwell flyover delaying the work unnecessarily. Where there is will theres a way.

Need not travel to mangalore city to see smart city. Just see in front of city corpoation building -KSRTC road. no foot path, all big cars are parked in foot path. dont call it is smart city, It look like a town, Roads both sides are used as car parks. Better to stop the smart city project, use balance funds for some other useful projects.

It's 10 years. No idea how long it takes to complete MLR-Hassan road. I think he forgot nanthoor and kpt flyovers (he promised long back). He can't fool voters once again. He is good only for renaming train and roads.

Its is now that beloved MP awakened and has instructed on this 15 day meeting between departments. This should have happened 4-5 years back when the smart city works ran into delays & not after Dinesh Gundu Rao highlighted the massive delays . Hope the BJP high command takes note of the inefficient MP & we have a new candidate from BJP .
