Bantwal, Jun 9: A ganja peddler and drug addict from Bantwal was allegedly killed in Mudigere after being doused with petrol.

The victim, identified as Mohammad Sawad, son of Abbas from Ira vilage in Bantwal, was reportedly killed by unknown suspects who then disposed of his body in the Banakkal hills of Mudigere, Chikkamagaluru.

Sawad, who was married but had abandoned his wife, was known to be involved in ganja peddling and was addicted to the drug. Despite belonging to a respectable family, his relatives became frustrated with his wayward behavior and expelled him from their home.

Engaged in the illicit trade of ganja, Sawad had established connections with other peddlers. However, approximately ten days ago, he was kidnapped from Ira due to a financial dispute related to the trade. He was held captive in an undisclosed location, where he was ultimately killed after being doused with petrol. Subsequently, his body was discarded in the Banakkal hills.

The police have identified the involvement of youths from Vagga and Kavalkatte in Sawad's murder. It is believed that his friends, who were also ganja addicts, were aware of his abduction, leading to suspicion of their involvement in the crime. The authorities are currently searching for the suspects.
