Mangaluru, Sep 24: The decennial celebration of Moras Charitable Foundation, Kuppepadavu, a philanthropic organisation that has been consistently working for the welfare of society in the areas of health, education and community development in and around Mangaluru–Kuppepadavu, was held recently at Kilenjaru Aramane Government High School, Kuppepadavu.
The decennial celebration commenced with a warm welcome to the distinguished guests on the school premises.
The formal programme was inaugurated by Fr Edwin Pinto, parish priest of Manjeshwar Church.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Edwin Pinto appreciated the Foundation for identifying economically disadvantaged students and people belonging to various sections of society, understanding their needs and extending meaningful and beneficial financial assistance to them. He commended the Foundation for its various socially oriented initiatives undertaken over the past ten years and observed that its activities had earned appreciation and recognition among the people of the locality.
On the occasion, the chief guest also launched the new website of Moras Charitable Foundation.
The programme was presided over by His Grace Dr Bernard Moras, president of the Foundation and archbishop emeritus of the Archdiocese of Bangalore.
In his presidential address, he called upon students from all sections of society to pursue higher education and cultivate a meaningful spirit of giving back to society what they have received from it.
He advised them to shape their future as successful leaders and contribute to nation-building while fulfilling their social responsibilities with commitment. He also urged everyone to become ambassadors of environmental conservation and join hands in creating a greener and cleaner world.
Sumana Crasta, counsellor at Bantwal–Sajipanadu Primary Health Centre, speaking on the occasion, emphasised that parents and teachers should have appropriate awareness of issues relating to students’ health, sexuality and gender equality. She advised students to avoid unhealthy food habits, including the excessive consumption of junk food, and to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Mark Mendonca, the nodal teacher for the decennial celebration, presented a report and documentary highlighting the Foundation’s ten-year journey, its growth, socially oriented programmes and achievements.
Sheikh Abdullah, SDMC member, recalled the close association between the Foundation and the School Development and Monitoring Committee. Appreciating the role played by the Foundation in the academic and infrastructural development of the school, he sought its continued support for meeting the school’s basic requirements in the years to come.
Talented students of Kilenjaru High School who secured high marks in the 2026 SSLC examination were felicitated with awards in recognition of their academic achievement.
Scholarships were also distributed to talented students pursuing higher education at various institutions in and around Mangaluru who were in need of financial assistance.
On the occasion, a cupboard for Kalladi Primary School and an inverter for Kilenjaru High School were symbolically handed over to the respective Headmasters by the President and Trustees of the Foundation.
Peter Anil Rego of Brilliant Printers, Bengaluru, a well-wisher of the Foundation, shared his journey and experiences in the field of business with the students. He encouraged them to develop the ability to face difficult situations in life with courage and determination and to set goals towards achieving financial independence. He also conveyed his best wishes to the Foundation on the occasion of its decennial celebration.
As part of the decennial celebrations, bags were distributed as mementoes to teachers, donors, students, SSLC achievers, beneficiaries and committee members.
The dignitaries present on the dais included trustees, Reginald Moras, John Cruz Moras, Martin Moras and Joseph Moras from the Foundation; Sudheer Jain, president of the SDMC; and SDMC members Shashidhar Shetty, Agari Thimmappa Shetty and Sundarashanthi.
Babu P M, headmaster, delivered the introductory address, welcoming everyone and familiarising the gathering with the Foundation’s socially oriented objectives and activities.
Roman Lobo compered the programme, while Joseph Moras, trustee of the Foundation, delivered the vote of thanks.
Teachers Vimala, Usha, Uday Kumar, Tulasi and Nethra, along with students and parents, were present at the programme.
The decennial celebration of Moras Charitable Foundation, which has been walking the path of service for the past ten years by responding to the educational, healthcare and social needs of various sections of society, emerged as a meaningful occasion commemorating a decade of service and social commitment.
