Mangaluru: Fraud in house deal led to Ashiwni's suicide in Kumpala

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jun 9: The case of a young girl, who killed herself within three days of the house warming ceremony of her new residence, which she bought from a woman, has taken a twist.

Ashwini (25), a native of Farangipete, now from Chitranjalinagara of Kumpala is the unfortunate victim of this tragedy.

While Ashwini was cheated by the woman to whom she paid cash for the house, the bank personnel had arrived on the day of the house warming and embarrassed the young girl. These events affected the girl psychologically and forced her to take the extreme step. This is revealed in the death note written by the girl before killing herself.

Ashwini was employed in Dubai and had come to her native place a few days ago. When she was working in Dubai, she got acquainted with a woman by the name Sangeetha. As per the agreement between Sangeetha and Ashwini, the house at Kumpala would be transferred to Ashwini’s name as soon as the bank loan was paid.

Sangeetha owed the bank Rs 18 lac home loan. She took Rs seven lac cash from Ashwini in advance. Ashwini also paid Rs 17,000 every month for eight months to Sangeetha to pay the EMI of the loan to the bank.

On June 5, a grand house warming ceremony was held in the presence of relatives and friends. When the relatives were still at home, the bank personnel arrived and warned that the house will be auctioned if the loan is not repaid. They also said that the EMI is not paid since a year. Ashwini, who wanted to show her achievement of buying a house at the young age, felt ashamed in front of her relatives and got depressed. The bank personnel had asked her to come to the bank branch on June 8.

Ashwini, who was completely dejected by the happenings was worried about facing the bank personnel on June 8. On June 7 night, she sat inside her room in the new house, wrote a the death note and then killed herself.

In the death note, which is written in Tulu language using English alphabets, deceased Ashwini says, “I am responsible for my own death. If police read the death note, that is enough. There is no need to investigate the matter.” Ashwini also mentioned how she was deceived by Sangeetha, her friend in Dubai. She also wrote ‘Nikhil I love you’, addressing her boyfriend and asked him to be given the IPhone she was using.

Devaki, the mother of Ashwini accused her friends of being the reason for her death. She spoke to the media and said, “Someshwar Nikhil and two other girls were in continuous contact with Ashwini. Even after the house warming ceremony was over, they were sitting on the terrace of the house, smoking cigarettes and spoiling my daughter. For Ashwini, her friends were more important. She never thought of her mother. Even I do not know that she was coming on vacation from Dubai. Her friends knew it. I was not even told about the deal of this house. Now the home loan has taken her life and made me orphan.”

According to the death note, no action can be initiated against any individual. If Ashwini’s mother Devaki, files a complaint against the bank officials and seizing personnel and also the woman named Sangeetha, then police can file a case of abetment of suicide against them.

Ullal station officer said that a case of suicide is registered so far.

Bankers must be thought how to deal with situation. Perhaps dealing privately could have sorted this matter in better way. Again, suicide is not solution to problem. People need to be guided on these things and society have major role to play.

Sangeeta is responsible for all this. She is 420. Don't try to cheat anyone. If you cheat anyone this is what going to happen to you. Read in the book of Genesis There Jacob patriarch is cheated his father Isac. After that Jacob was cheated by his own father in law by giving elder daughter instead of younger. Again his own sons cheated him by selling Joseph and lying Jacob that Joseph is being killed by wild animal I think this much is enough for cheaters now. This is not from my pocket but from holy scripture

Why bank so much keen to recover loan in time from middleclass section. Why not chasing big tycoons for their loan default in the same manner how they chase in above manner? Knowing her house warming function why they visited on same day? just to humiliate her in front of public and her relative? their motive is in question. RIP Ms Aswini.

Seems clearly sangeetha has taken this poor gullible girl for a ride by not paying the EMI to the bank..also the bank seems to be waiting for the opportunity to humiliate Ashwini.Imagine her mental state where she had to face humiliation in front of everybody even after paying money . I feel sorry for her..Sometimes people just feel as the whole world is against them and take the extreme step. Her mother should file abetment to suicide case against bank officials and her friends.

Ashwini blindly believed Sangeetha. She should have taken and seen bank all bank documents from Sangeetha and should have paid directly to the bank which would have remained as evidence.

Bankers too work hand in gloves with customers in situations where they think they cannot be caught! In one recent episode, in the family circle, one old person who had no close heirs, lying in a coma in a hospital, some far off relatives entered in the loop/fray, took the Bank manager into confidence, who accompanied them to the hospital and in collusion with one unscrupulous lawyer and doctor took the brain dead person's thumb impression and withdrew all her FDs (no nomination) worth lacs and valuables! Some more money from another bank could not be withdrawn coz the bank manager staunchly refused to do such an act on a brain dead person citing the banking rules!! If this act of the first banker was objected to by some knowledgeable person, all would have come into trouble!! So many such cases might be happening in the country, God 🙏 only knows!

Bank people should have been bit sensitive in dealing the issue . They have not handled the matter properly. They should not have waited for one year for sma turned npa a/c. I feel bank officials waited for right opportunity to act without realising the consequences of their action .

Cliffy sir, i agree with what you have written in reply to my comment. These officials arrived on her house warming day during working hours and definitely on a tip off given by Ashwini's seller. I feel, bank's loan section official must have been in good relations with Sangeetha. This Sangeeta must have known Ashwini's weak point. So, she wanted to himiliate Ashwini by informing her bank official. Because loan personnel definitely will follow up with the debtors for repayment by sending messages or notices after notices. This sangeetha informed them about the house warming. Mother herself says, friends are everything for Sangeetha. Cheater lady. On that night of her house warming day, Ashwini's friends must have frightened her. Whatever, Ashwini should have furnished her bank details to the bank of her transactions (if she has done so ! ) snd should have given police complaints. Ashwini's friends are involved in this....

I know mangalore bankers always target innocent people for recovery. While giving loan they do not assess the loan properly , rely on guarantee of govt employees. When loan goes bad happily target guarantor for recovery

Bank recovery jobs are subcontracted to recovery agents who look and act more deadly than thugs; but as per recovery protocol, bank will definitely send one or two reminders, and then a legal notice, ultimately will hand over the job to the recovery musclemen who resort to such tactics as insulting in public etc! Looks like the departed girl got pushed to the wall under the given circumstances and was left with only one option! As someone has commented, her BF should be thoroughly interrogated as he seems to be in the loop of this tragic saga!!

There is one type of people who voted a person believing the dreams he showed them, but mostly bcoz of hate towards another group of people. And then there is a bright and young Ashwini who believed her friend but mostly out of love and friendship. Both got cheated. People cant trust anybody, whether it is for love or hate. Ultimately ones own family suffers

As I commented yesterday, check for encumbrance on property through a good advocate, and recheck yourself. Read any document thoroughly and ask some knowledgeable person or advocate before putting your signature on any paper. If the opposite person shows urgency, just refuse.

If there was a harmony between Ashwini and her mother, suicide could have been avoided! as there are many other ways to deal with the situation! Some mothers are very control freak, want to put their nose at every situation of their children, even when they become an adult. Hence these kids become rebellious when they grow up! Ashiwini wanted to prove herself to her mother that she is capable of standing on her feet & can buy a house. But when the insensitive & stupid bank officials insulted Ashwini, on the day of her house warming, mother might have shouted at her badly to make a point that she is always right!!! When a person gets support from the family, he/she can fight any situation! RIP

RIP!! When she was so close to her boyfriend and mother, why she kept this lifetime deal a top secret🤫? Also, since she might have done all the dealing in cash, it would be difficult to make any case against the accused! Possible that forensic check of the iPhone contents might reveal further secrets in solving the case!!

Please publish the name of the bank also. The bank personnel could have spoken to her in private. Instead it looks like they intentionally wanted to humiliate her in front of all guests. Total lack of empathy and common sense. Somebody at the bank wanted to show off their power and did not care what the result would be.
