Udupi: Three-day 'Amrit Yuva Kalotsav' cultural fest to be held from Jan 30 - Feb 1

Udupi, Jan 29: A three-day youth cultural festival – Amrit Yuva Kalotsav – to commemorate the 75th year of Indian Independence in a different way, will be organised by Kendra Sangeet Natak Akademi, in collaboration with the Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and Sciences (GCPAS), MAHE on January 30, 31 and February 1 in Manipal.

The Sangeet Natak Akademi chairperson Dr Sandhya Purecha will inaugurate the Kalotsav at 5.30 pm on January 30 at Dr T M A Pai auditorium in the university campus of MAHE, Manipal.

MAHE pro-chancellor Dr H S Ballal and MAHE UNESCO Peace Chair's Prof M D Nalapat, will be the guests of honour.

In a joint press release, Akademi deputy secretary Helen Acharya and GCPAS head Prof Varadesh Hiregange said, “Artistes from different parts of the country will perform, representing the ‘rainbow’ diversity of art in the ‘university town’ of Manipal, emphasising its ‘natural nature of multiversity’, primarily to connect with the youth. Among many places in the country where such a Kalotsav is being organised, Manipal (Udupi) is the first place chosen for this purpose in Karnataka.

MAHE registrar Dr Giridhar Kini, Prof Ashok Kumar Sinha of Magadh University, MAHE Culture Committee chairperson Dr Shobha U Kamath would be the guests at the valedictory on February 1 at 5.30 pm in the Dr T M A Pai auditorium. The programme will be streamed live on YouTube, they said.

The events include Dholu Kunitha, Kalaripayattu, Bharatanatyam, instrumental ensemble, Yakshagana, play in Hindi, Siddhi Dhamami Dance, Hindustani and Carnatic music, Kuchipudi, Karadi Majalu and Choral Music. There will be a workshop on Art Critique to be steered by Dr H S Shiva Prakash, Keremane Shivanand Hegde, Dr Prabhakar Joshy, Dr Vasant Bharadhwaj, Dr Arthy Shetty and Madhu Nataraj.

Sangeet Natak Akademi is organizing ‘Amrit Yuva Kalotsav’- a series of festivals all over India showcasing young artistes and the continuum of myriad performing art traditions. The Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and Sciences (GCPAS) is a constituent department of MAHE, which engages with interdisciplinary teaching and research. Ecosophy, Aesthetics and Peace are its thrust areas, preparing students for art media. MA in Ecosophical Aesthetics, MA in Art and Peace Studies, BA in Aesthetics and Peace Studies are its academic programmes.
