Mangaluru: Forest officer gets 5 years jail in disproportionate assets case

Mangaluru, Jan 28: A zonal forest officer was sentenced to five years in prison and slapped a fine of Rs 1.5 lac in a disproportionate asset case.

S Raghava Patali, a resident of Derebail Konchady, retired zonal forest officer of Sahyadri zone of Beltangady, is the person who is convicted by the court.

A case was filed against Patali under Anti-corruption Act of 1988 in the Lokayukta police station on July 21, 2011. The inquiry was conducted by third additional district sessions (special) court judge justice B B Jakati.

If Patali fails to pay the fine, he needs to undergo one more year of simple imprisonment. Police inspector Udaya M Nayak filed a complaint. ASP Vittaldas Nayak conducted the investigation and submitted charge sheet to court. Special public prosecutor of Lokayukta Ravindra Munnipadi had argued for the prosecution.

    He is not only the one with corruption in Govt.Office.They will have to build more jails for govt officials .Because everyone is corrupt.Now started with one .All forest ,govt.officers in offices take money open .He must have done too much.What about MLAs?

    Why only Patali is punished for having "disproportionate assets"!!!?????? If proper enquiry is made, every Govt. Official may have disproportionate assets, buthe, they too bribe the Officials so, no enquiry, no punishment! !!!

    He must have helped many timber merchants to cut and supply timber at the cost of his Zonal position - he forgot positions are not permanent.

    Hey Dr Kusuma MBBS DGO, Dont you know he is just a scapegoat? There is share right up to top ministers. Which world are you in ? Why punish only this guy? Poor guy.. I had bribed top forest officers when I was in India. I didnt have choice. It was like when in Rome do what Romans do.

    A retired forest officer , case filed in 2011 and now he is sentenced a jail term. Doesn't make sense. Such people should be terminated immediately with ZERO retirement benefits.

    Forest is where hidden treasures are... From exotic animals to rarest herbs unimaginable gifts of God are found only by the so called protectors... Money thus received is all black and they will hold onto more than what they really require... This is one of very few who has got caught and convicted... Usually such people get caught due to tipping by their own circle people out of differences... With illegal money comes fake attitude and vehemence...
