Wayanad, May 26: In a chilling incident that sent shockwaves through the quiet village of Appappara in Wayanad, a 34-year-old woman was brutally hacked to death and her teenage daughter grievously injured on Sunday evening, May 25. The accused, identified as Dileesh, a close acquaintance of the victim, has been taken into custody, with the missing younger daughter found safe in his company.
According to police sources, the horrific attack took place at the rented residence of the victim, Praveena, located under Thirunelli police station limits. Praveena had been living separately from her husband along with her two daughters.

On Sunday night, a sudden assault allegedly by Dileesh turned fatal when Praveena was attacked with a sharp weapon and succumbed to her injuries on the spot. Her 14-year-old daughter, who tried to intervene, sustained deep cuts to her neck and ear. She was immediately shifted to a government hospital, where she continues to receive medical treatment.

In a major breakthrough, the suspect was apprehended on Monday, May 26, near a forested patch close to the house. The missing girl was found alongside him and appeared unharmed, police confirmed. A mobile phone and a bedsheet believed to belong to the accused were also recovered during the search operation.
