Kashinath Gets Kavita Trust Award, Kavita Fondekar Wins Poetry Competition

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Dec 18: Konkani poet Kashinath Shamba Lolienkar has won the 'Mathias Family Kavita Puroskar - 2010' instituted by Kavita Trust. The award consists of Rs 10,000 in cash, a citation and a memento and is being given by Joseph Mathias, managing director, Merit Freight Systems LLC Dubai in his family's name.

Kashinath Shamba Lolienkar is the pen name of S D Tendulkar who resides in Mapusa, Goa. His poetry collections are 'Kashi Mhontta' (1982), 'Kashik Monchemch Poddtta' (1998), 'Kashin Monnpachem Soddunk Na' (1999), 'Kavya Sutr' (2009) and 'Kashi Khandd' (2010). Besides, he has published 'Chorus,' a collection of short plays and 'Valor,' a book on literary criticism.

His themes are rare, different and bold. His surrealistic poems stand high among any languages of Indian literature.  He is delightfully different from all other poets. An iconoclast, a remover of masks, boldly and bitingly satirical, he casts a livid light on present society-hypocritical, conceited, self satisfied, insincere.  Kashinath uses a colloquial idiomatic Konkani with ease and effect.

Kavita Trust had instituted the award two years ago. Aruna Rao Kundaje and Kavyadas from Mangalore have won this award on earlier occasions.
