The college was granted permission to establish a DDU Kaushal Kendra in 2015 under the 12th Plan Scheme. The college was approved to start three programmes BVoc in ‘Retail Management’, ‘Food Processing and Engineering’ and ‘Pharmaceutical Chemistry’ from 2015. As many as 708 higher educational institutions including universities had submitted the proposal for this unique scheme. St Aloysius College is one of only 48 institutions approved by UGC throughout the country. That particular academic year St Aloysius College (Autonomous) was one among the only two colleges selected as Kaushal Kendra in the entire state.

In 2018, the college was approved to start one more BVoc programme in ‘Animation and Multi-Media’ from 2018.

At present, more than 400 students are pursuing their BVoc course. More than 300 students completed their BVoc degree and got placement in their respective sectors.

Now a total of six BVoc courses are run under DDU Kaushal Kendra of St Aloysius College (Autonomous).

The courses have been identified based on the skill-gap study and the job opportunities in Dakshina Kannada.

Instead of classroom centered formal education, the students under the Kaushal Kendra are learning through hands-on experience and internships in industry and business houses. Fourteen companies/business firms have signed MoUs with the college for providing their expertise in administering the said courses. Suitable candidates will also have got the opportunity in the business units where they get training. Some students got a stipend during their internship. Students who have completed their pre-university courses can make use of this excellent opportunity. Further, the students also become eligible to pursue postgraduate studies and research.
