Mangaluru Aug 15: Expert PU College, Valachil marked National Librarians’ Day with a special programme at the college library, celebrating the vital role of libraries and librarians in fostering knowledge and lifelong learning.

Principal Subramanya Udupa H C addressed the gathering and paid tribute to Dr Ranganathan, noting how his vision continues to shape education and access to knowledge.

The event began with an introduction by Panchami who set the context for the day’s observance.

Delivering the keynote address, Johnson Joy Lobo spoke about the life and legacy of Dr S R Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India. He highlighted Ranganathan’s contributions as both a librarian and a mathematician, and his lasting impact on modern library systems.

Druthi V Hegde, vice principal – administration and Ashwil Karkera, administrative officer, also spoke on the occasion. They acknowledged the dedication of librarians and their support in strengthening the academic environment of the college.

Dignitaries present on the dais included Divya J S, assistant head of library, and Vasanth, librarian from the Kodialbail Campus, along with other faculty and guests.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Namitha, who expressed gratitude to all participants and extended National Librarians’ Day wishes.
