Shivamogga, Oct 20: Houses sites for all construction of houses in a phased programme is the State Government’s priority, said Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Tuesday.

Addressing a function after distributing various facilities from the State Government to chosen beneficiaries in Shikaripura, he said the State Government will ensure that ‘hakku patras’ (title deeds) will be distributed at the doorsteps of the beneficiaries.

“Don’t pay money to middlemen. If anybody demands money for getting any benefits from the Government, immediately lodge complaints with the District Deputy Commissioner,’’ he said promising stern action against the middlemen exploiting the poor.

Yediyurappa said Karnataka was blessed with bountiful rains in most parts of the State and asserted that the State Government would strive to improve the farm sector and protect the interest of farmers.

Farmers are being supplied with grain sifting machines at subsidised rates, he said indicating that Shikaripur taluk alone has been provided with Rs 1.40 crore for the purpose.

The Chief Minister distributed ‘hakku patras’ to houseless people, agricultural implements to farmers, laptops to students and cash compensation to the dependents of farmers who died accidentally.

BJP’s Shivamogga MP B Y Raghavendra said he was happy that 403 beneficiaries of 14 gram panchayats in Shikaripura taluk were distributed with ‘hakku patras’ and said another 1,000 beneficiaries from 13 other gram panchayats will be distributed with title deeds for house sites

State Malnad Area Development Board President Gurumurthy, Deputy Commissioner K B Shivakumar, Superintendent of Police K M Shantharaju, Shivamogga Chief Executive Officer Vaishali and other dignitaries participated in the function.
