Mangaluru: MSNM Besant Institute of PG Studies - Empowerment through education

Media Release

Mangaluru, Oct 1: The year 1918 was a milestone year for the coastal city of Mangaluru. In June that year, a lone woman had set out to make a difference in the lives of the women of this region. Decades before the concept of ‘girl child’ became the focus of attention in the modern world; her insightful mind had already seen the value of empowering the womenfolk for achieving social transformation. Now a century later, her vision can be seen in the many educational institutions that stand proudly bearing her name. The woman was Dr Annie Besant, Theosophist, freedom fighter and social reformer. What prompted her to start an educational institution for women was the abject poverty, backwardness and pathetic conditions which she witnessed among women of the time, fuelled by superstition, regressive social practices and lack of enlightened approach.

Besant Girls School, a completely philanthropic institute, founded by Dr Annie Besant, under the flagship of National Education Society has completed 100 years in the service of education for women. The School initially managed by the Theosophical Society of India had played host to the Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. The school was also fortunate to have as its honoured visitors the Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore and the Governor General of India, C Rajagopalachari.

Women’s National Educational Society (WNES) Mangaluru established in 1943, took over the school administration from the Theosophical Society in the same year. This ushered in a new era in the realm of education in Mangaluru. WNES, subsequently, took a bold and gigantic step, bringing into its ambit a higher secondary school and a pre-university institution. In December 1976, the late Manel Srinivas Nayak, a great philanthropist, visionary and the then president of WNES, founded Besant Evening College and in June 1977 Besant Women’s College. While his foresight and initiative played a pivotal role in establishing the two institutions, the active leadership provided by his successors, the late B Damodar Prabhu and the late Manel Krishna Nayak enabled the institutions to register unprecedented growth.

Manel Srinivas Nayak Memorial Besant Institute of PG Studies

In 1999, WNES launched its most prestigious academic programme- MBA on a new campus on the outskirts of Mangaluru in Bondel, as a tribute to the memory of the most dynamic president in the history of WNES, the late Manel Srinivas Nayak. The first MBA institute in Mangaluru – MSNM Besant Institute of PG Studies is not only a pioneer but a formidable leader in academic terms.

The institute offers a two-year full-time MBA program affiliated to Mangaluru University, approved by AICTE, Government of India and re-accredited by NAAC with an A grade. Over the last 20 years, the institute has developed into a leading centre for professional management education, research and consultancy services in this part of the country. In addition to offering a full-time course in management, the institute plans to offer a number of specialized training programs and to organise seminars and workshops in collaboration/association with reputed institutions and universities in India and abroad.

The Institute has a very spacious and well-equipped library, with a large number of books both in print and non-print formats. National and international journals and E-Journal databases. The PC Lab, established with the support of TATAs, is equipped with a state of the art workstation with the latest multimedia facilities. Indoor and outdoor games facilities are provided to offer total relaxation and recreation to the students. The two hostel blocks separate for boys and girls, with all modern facilities, are situated just a few yards away from the main institute building.

The institute has faculty members who are highly proficient and professionals with enviable academic achievements. In the last announced University results, the institute recorded a 100% first-class pass with many distinctions. Year after year the successful candidates are gainfully placed, through campus recruitments and many of our alumni are in middle and top-level corporate positions. Our placement over the years has been in leading companies like Aditya Birla Retail, Alembic Pharma, Allcargo Logistics, Amazon, Atrimed Pharma, Axis Bank, Birla Sun Life Insurance, Canon India, CareerNet, Cipla, CureFit, E&Y, Eureka Forbes, Future Group, HDFC Bank, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, Ian Martin, ICICI Prudential, JP Morgan, Jaro Education, Jubilant Foodworks, Justdial, Karvy, Kotak Life Insurance, Kotak Mahindra, Manipal Technologies, Mercedes Benz, Motilal Oswal, New Medical Centre, Abu Dhabi, Radio Mirchi, Ramco, Reliance Jio, SKF, SSG software, Sterling Resorts and many others.

Hearty Congratulations to MSNM Besant Institute of PG Studies which has grown out to be a leader in academic.

Vision of Dr. Annie Besant over hundred years ago and has helped thousands of young professionals to attain professional education and leadership qualities. It is critical that such professionals are learning about work /life balance to lead happy families and face the challenges in a given individual life.

Our Mangalore is well known for professional education and credit for maturity and sustaining advances in education goes to people who are actively involved in leading, directing, and managing such professional institutions. Dr. Molly Chaudhry who is currently leading the MSNM Institute is instrumental in planning and guiding the success of this institution. There are those who served as leaders in this institute, and have contributed for the success.

The Knowledge Base Management principles are visible in the leadership to share and improve on academic Management principles in practice for success of each of the PG student. Such leadership and educational teaching efforts are not easy in today's environment, and do take lots of constructive planning and meeting of minds with all team members. Also, there are serious sacrifices in such missions and results of these are normally visible after years of success.

We wish the leadership and management of MSNM Besant Institute of PG Studies the best in providing quality education and well balanced life learning teachings.
