Mangaluru: Proposal to rename Ladyhill circle deferred due to objections

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Sep 22: In tune with demand made by sections of the people, the city corporation was considering a proposal to rename Ladyhill circle after philosopher and reformer, Sri Narayana Guru. It is learnt that the city corporation, after encountering resentment and objections from many, has decided to keep the proposal pending for the time being.

The city corporation council had proposed to make renaming of the circle as part of its agenda for the general session of the council proposed to be held on Tuesday September 22. But the city corporation has been receiving an array of objections besides pressure from many sections of the society relating to the proposal to change the circle's name. As such, the city corporation has dropped the proposal to change the name for the present, it is learnt.

Premananda Shetty, veteran BJP corporator who happens to be the chief whip of the council, clarified that the proposal to change the name of Ladyhill circle will not be part of the agenda of the council meeting.

Leaders must stop this appeasement politics of communities for votebank. Don't change existing names and hurt sentiments. Build new projects for good of people, create employment opportunities and then rename such projects with whatever name. When they can't do real work just divert attention and create unnecessary controversies.

This non sense of the authorities and leaders must stop. They should work on building something new and take the liberty to name as they wish. Enough of renaming politicking......its absurd and tells us of the capability of those who do it...,...they are supposed to do not this for sure.

Naam mein kya rakha hain kaam dekho. Dont digress by changing names, first show us the work done. No one changes their own name every five years as they have to live up to the old name. Better to focus on something constructive than destructive.

Bunch of useless people,There are lotz of burning issues other than changing names,I think all politicians should be given monthly and yearly targets with deadlines to achieve so that they can concentrate on developments work rather than doing these kind of unproductive work.

The name of the road from Lady hill circle to Kottara chowki is Kulur Ferry Road. There is no longer a ferry there. Why not rename this road as Narayan Guru road. Nobody will have objections then. Why do the over enthusiastic followers of Narayan Guru a renowned reformer want to drag his good name into unwanted controversies and create friction and unwanted tensions between groups and communities? The soul of Shri Narayan guru must be crying out in pain.

People who has done Diploma / Engineering think / work on constructing useful things for the society

People who failed in school & in their personal life think / work only on changing the names of already constructed Monuments / Roads.

Ladyhill locals and whoever is not in favor of the change need to be happy and claim victory. We all know how it works. This is now swept under the carpets. People forget soon. One fine day 3-4 months later, we will hear the announcement and boards come up. There will be some Hoo hah from certain people. Congress will call for a 'massive protest' with 15 people in attendance , reducing the matter to a joke. Heavy internet trolling on media by the usual brigade abusing Nalin, Vedvyas , Shah, Modi , BSY etc. Thats it , all have to then live with the new name.

More power to the people! The photo brings more focus to the institutions around it and I had to look hard for the Circle itself. The agenda should have more appropriately been replaced by 'Beautification of Ladyhill Circle'.

By renaming the circle or place, does not benefit any society instead it is a burden on tax paying society. Instead of renaming the circle, construct a monumental project for the benefits of the people and give the name of the persons in whose memory that project is done. And this is common sense suggestion

But putting the proposal the MCC achieved its goal of dividing the communities. This was the same strategy adopted for Lighthouse hill road. There was a political gain for the ruling party in the MLA and Corporation elections.

Yesterday there was an article on Daiji it was called " Divide & Grab". and the MCC ruling party grabbed some voters by this move

Now that the name Lady Hill Circle will remain, can the same enthusiastic people take the initiative and arrange to beautify this well known circle by adding in a few plants and flowers. If the picture shown here is a current one, then this renowned Circle deserves better than just a name.

That is good news. Hope this matter will never come up for discussion and authorities will respect feeling of many students and also a particular community.
