Two-time European 800m champion Krol handed doping ban


Paris, Aug 7 (IANS): Two-time European 800-meter champion Nataliia Krol of Ukraine has been handed a 20-month ban for doping violation by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).

"The AIU has banned Ukrainian middle-distance runner Nataliia Krol for 20 months with effect from January 16, 2020 for the presence and use of a prohibited substance, both violations of the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules," AIU said in a statement.

Currently ranked 21st in the world in women's 800m event, the 25-year-old has been handed the suspension for the presence and use of the prohibited substance hydrochlorothiazide.

Krol registereed back-to-back victories at the 2016 and 2018 European Athletics Championships and also earned the 800m gold medal at the 2019 World Military Games.
