Lisbon, Sep 19: Cristiano Ronaldo has been included in Portugal's squad for the upcoming Nations League matches by new head coach Jorge Jesus.

The 41-year-old Ronaldo had said the 2026 World Cup would be his last, but the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has not announced when he plans to retire from international football. He would be 43 when the 2028 European Championship is held.

The squad is the first selected by Jesus, who was appointed to replace Roberto Martinez after Portugal were eliminated by Spain with a 1-0 defeat in the World Cup round of 16.

Jesus previously coached Ronaldo at Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, where they won the league together last season. The 72-year-old coach has also managed several Portuguese clubs, including Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.

Ronaldo is the leading scorer in men's international football with 146 goals. His biggest achievement with Portugal came in 2016, when he helped the team win the European Championship.

Portugal will begin its Nations League campaign by hosting Wales on September 24. It will then travel to face Norway on September 27, followed by an away match against Denmark on October 1 and a home game against Norway on October 4.
