Udupi, Nov 19: The 66th All India Cooperative Week, went under way at Smt Ammanni Ramanna Shetty auditorium, Udupi here on Monday, November 18. .
The programme, being organized in association with Karnataka State Cooperative Federation, Dakshina Kannada district Central Cooperative Bank (SCDCC), Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district Cooperative Union, Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers Union, Undivided Dakshina Kannada Fish Marketing federation and other organizations.
After the inauguration, M N Rajendra Kumar, president, SCDCC Bank, noted that cooperative societies alone can penetrate the depths of the society and meet even the last person in the society. Government of India has been showing discrimination towards corporate banks and cooperative banks. We are ready to work in tune with new schemes and plans of the government. At the same time, it should think of developing cooperative sector, he stressed.
"The corporate banks do not understand the needs of common people. The central government has been patronizing corporate banks as against credit cooperative banks," said he further observed.
N Ganganna, president, Karnataka State Cooperative Federation, felt that the government will not come to the rescue of cooperative unions when they are in crisis. "But when the corporate banks face heavy losses or face deficit, the government rushes to help them. It is following dual policy," he stated.
At the same time, he called upon the general public not to support signing of RCEP agreement supported by Modi.
K Raghupati Bhat, Udupi MLA, in his presidential address, said, 'all credit cooperative societies should help one other. Only then they would be able to reach their targets and the concerned istitutions will get developed. All credit cooperative societies should become trustworthy and work strictly as per government laws," he demanded.
"A law will soon be implemented to allow opening of accounts in credit cooperatives by all. Most of the beneficiaries are not getting benefits of Yashaswini scheme, because of some rigidity in this scheme. I will convey this to the government and see that the rules get modified soon', said Bhat.
A grand procession organized as part of state level cooperative week was taken out from Jodukatte, which culminated at Smt Ammanni Ramanna hall.
There was also an exhibition of various products of cooperatives.
This huge procession was accompanied by Chende dance, traditional music instruments, colourful tableaux, puppet dance and folk dance among others. The chief guests were brought in horse cart (chariot) to the venue.
Thousands of cooperative Union members participated in the programme.
Belapu Deviprasad Shetty, president, Belapu gram panchayat, H S Poornima, nominated director, KSCF, Raviraj Hegde, president, Dakshina Kannada Milk producers Union, Yashpal Suvarna, president, Undivided Dakshina Kannada District Fish Marketing Federation, Ravindra Kambali, president, SKADS, Mangaluru, Kaup Diwakar Shetty, director, KMF, Bengaluru, Sudarshan Jain, director, KSARDB, Sarala Kanchan, president Mahila mandali maha okkoota, Krishnaraj Saralaya, Praveen B Nayak, deputy manager, Cooperative Union, Dinakar Babu, president, zilla panchayat, Sheela K Shetty, vice president, Neetha Gururaj, president, taluk panchayat and others were present.
Indrali Jayakar Shetty, president, district credit cooperative union, welcomed the gathering and delivered keynote address.
Purushottam rendered the vote of thanks.
