Doha: Qatar volunteers organise generous iftar charity drive

Media Release

Doha, May 31: Members of Qatar volunteers group on May 24 took part in an iftar charity drive, distributing food packets to motorists at traffic intersection to help them break their fast safely and reduce accidents around the time of iftar.

The volunteers have been working throughout the week to prepare the packages for distribution, donating generously and collecting small bottles of water, juices, dates and maamoul.

Every year, Qatar volunteers unite to offer a small gesture of giving towards their fasting friends in Doha. Small packs are prepared and distributed at iftar time to all the fasting people who are still on the roads and have not reached their homes to be able to break their fast. This year too they distributed some 2,500 iftar packages. Thanks to Loyala International School Doha, for providing the space to volunteers to put the items together at their premises, before being packed into large boxes in preparation for distribution drive. Loyala International School is greatly appreciated for contributing to this cause for the past five years now, since they started their operation. This time there principal too actively participated in the drive. All the donors who donated graciously and Qatar volunteers who once again made this event a huge success are appreciated.

“I think it is a great idea as the roads tend to get a bit hectic around iftar time – if people can break their fast and drive more safely it could potentially prevent accidents,” said one expatriate upon seeing the packs being distributed. “It is great to see people volunteering their time and effort for the benefit of others,” said another expatriate.
