Udupi: Man who ventures into rivulet drowns

Udupi, May 16: A man who got down a rivulet for taking bath drowned there. The inciden thappened in Bannadi village near Kota in the taluk on Tuesday May 14.

The deceased was Umesh (40), nephew of Aitha from Vaddarse village in the taluk. On Tuesday, Umesh had discharged the duty of beating the customary drum, 'Dolu', at Bannadi Garody as per the family tradition. After the programme concluded in the after noon, he visited Heerehole rivulet in Bannadi village to take bath.

When taking bath,Umesh moved ahead and began to drown in a deep patch of the rivulet all of a sudden. He began to shout for help at which some locals rushed to his rescue. He was brought out of water and taken to Kota community health centre by an ambulance. The doctors who checked him said he was no more.

A report about this incident was filed in Kota police station and they have launched investigation.
