Mangalore, Feb 8: One of the five, arrested on charges of harassing Kerala MLA Kunhambu’s daughter, wore a saffron ‘lungi’ while he was being produced at the judge’s residence on Saturday February 7.

However, when asked by media persons about the organization they belonged to, one had claimed that he was a Marxist while another one had said that he was from the DYFI  and the third had claimed to be from the CITU initially and then the AITUC.

The five were produced before the judge by the Pandeswara police team led by inspector Tilakachandra. The superintendent of police Satish Kumar had said in a press meet that none of them belonged to any organization.

The confusion here is that CITU and AITUC are different organizations. While the CITU is the labour union of the CPI (M), the other is a union of the CPI.

“CPI (M) regulations state that its members cannot be part of two organizations. The AITUC is also a leftist organization. The CPI (M) and CPI are different in revolution and understanding the democracy. While the Marxists believe in revolution, the CPI does not”’, said Jayanand, secretary, CPI (M), Manjeswara.

He added, “Media people who know politics of India, do not telecast or publish the lie uttered by the accused. Left organizations are not involved in moral policing or attacking girls on inter-religious matter. The left parties are secular and it suggests that there is no bar to religions”.

‘He is my son, but not leftist’

Kariyappa  Shetty, a  CPI (M) member from Majibail panchayat in Manjeswara said, “Sathish is  a son of  mine, but does not  agree with Communism and he  is  not  involved  in  our  party activities. He rarely comes home. He stays in Mangalore.”

P P Hegde, lawyer for the accused, said that Sathish, who is a bus conductor, is the son of a CPI(M) member Kariyappa Shetty.  He briefed media persons on this after appearing before Judge A N Pattan and filing a bail application.

One  of the  relatives of  Kariyyappa Shetty  said that there  is  no  rule that  a leftist’s son  has to be leftist and can join any  party he wants. MLA Kunhambu, when contacted over  phone said, “They  have  turned the  case and  planned  to blame it on the CPI (M)”.

Mangalore: Vigilantes Led By a Lady, Claims MLA

Daijiworld Media Network—Mangalore (TU/CN)

Mangalore, Feb 8: CPI (M) MLA C H Kunhambu on Sunday February 8 alleged that the media and the police in the district have been trying to hide the involvement of a woman in the abduction and assault case of his daughter Shruthi here, recently.

With this, the incident gets another twist after the arrested men were believed to have told police that they belonged to the DYFI, the youth wing of the Communist party. The police have arrested five persons in this connection on Saturday February 7.

Speaking to Daijiworld over phone, the MLA said that according to his daughter, about 100 people were involved in the incident. “The vigilantes were led by a woman. Shruthi has been mentally tortured by her. She was advised on ‘moral’ ethics by the woman’, he said.

Kunchambu claimed that there is an effort taking place to twist the entire matter by branding the accused as the cadres of DYFI. The administrative machinery has collapsed in the district, he alleged.

Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Shruthi said that a lady had translated Kannada words spoken by the vigilantes and directed her not to speak to Muslim friends.

Rightly said kevin, meanwhile all those who oppose these moral police should show them what best jobs can be done in society by really doing them and not by speaking.Unfortunately the responsible central ministers like Renuka Choudary are challeging these outfits by "Pub Bharo" initiation!

Its evident for all to see if attackers belongs to their faith then they tend to suggest a conspiracy. How come a spade cannot be called a spade. Attacking a girl or boy who are minding their business whether prostituting or not is nobody's right. Period.

Why cannot so called moral police think of doing real service for the public by making people and governments aware of the need to improve infrastructure, education, employment, food, shelter for the poor. I guess this does not pay them. See the achievements of the attackers of the MLA's daughter/Muslim boy.... they look like loosers in life so they decide to spoil the party for others.

There have been innumerable remarks and comments on the recent sad incidents in SK that is definitely not what should happen in any society. While the self-styled Vigilantes (DYFI, Ram Sene or CPI..etc) must be condemned, it is equally tragic to note that Mangaloreans are not highlighting the fact that many of the pvt bus service companies are owned by the politicians or their flunkies.

Also the so called Pubs and Lodges in the coastal boom towns are nothing but dens of prostitution and gambling. Most of these flourishing businesses have no license whatsoever since the same politicians who condemn them along with the local Police chiefs are their well wishers and god fathers!

While the report of National Women Commission member Nirmala Venkatesh reveals the fact that the Amenesia pub was indeed a hub for call girls, many of whom are poor, college going youngsters from areas surrounding Mangalore, the report was not comprehensive. Also since it did not cater to the forthcoming election oriented needs of the Cong-I, the whole incident and subsequent investigation seems to have been hijacked and capitalised to the core by the likes of Renuka Chowdhary, whose daily task now seems to be bitching about Karnataka.

The latest incident involving the CPI MLA’s daughter was initially blamed on the saffron brigade and it is now being revealed as a result of internal power wars within the CPI and DFYI organisations. While Karnataka has at least witnessed some tangible development (at last) by a Govt that got into power through arguably dubious means, it is regrettable to note that the crooks among the CPI, Sangh Parivar, the gowada clan and of course the perpetually corrupt Cong-I politicians from SK are making selfish use of such ridiculous incidents and adding fuel, all in the hope of pulling down a state govt and grabbing votes.
