Mangaluru, Oct 10: Minister for food, minority welfare and Wakf, B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan showed a wonderful gesture by handing over Rs one lac cash each to the four members who saved lives of more than 200 people at Jodupala village, which literally turned into a graveyard due to floods and landslides recently. This was his personal money.

Minister Zameer Ahmed was in the city to lay foundation stone to 'Metrology Bhavan' at Kudupu housing board on Thursday, October 10. Metrology Bhavan will come up in an area of 43 cents and the project is estimated to cost Rs 93 lacs.

During the recent floods and landslides at Jodupala village, a group of 16 brave men rescued several people from the jaws of death. When minister Zameer Ahmed Khan visited Jodupala, he felicitated 12 members and gave grants for Umrah trip as per the request of those 12 people.

Four persons, out of the team of 16, Bipin Kallugundi, Manohara Kalive, Vijaya Nidinji and Dinesh Kallugundi had requested the minister that they want to go on pilgrimage along with their families to holy places for Hindus. So the minister Zameer Ahmed gave away Rs one lac cash each to the four men.

Speaking on the occasion Minister Zameer Ahmed said, "They all belong to middle-class families and they are activists of Bajrang Dal. Humanity is more important than caste and religion. So I am helping them through this grant to visit temples along with their family,"

MLA Vedavyas Kamath said, "Today we have laid the foundation stone to the Metrology Bhavan, which was a long pending demand. I have also made one more demand, as my constituency consists of 38% of minorities, to release Rs 5 crore for the development of minorities.

During the programme, responding to the demands of MLA Vedavyas Kamath, minister Zameer Ahmed sanctioned Rs 3 crore for minority welfare and promised that he will release the amount within a week.

Mayor Bhaskar Moily, Wakf board president Kanachur Monu and others were present.
