Mangaluru, July 1: Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI) observed National Doctors’ Day on July 1 with a solemn Clinical Society Meet, chaired by the department of ophthalmology at Father Muller Medical College. The event paid tribute to the medical fraternity and honoured doctors for their dedicated service.
The programme was presided over by director of FMCI Fr Faustine Lucas Lobo. Dr J P Alva, former dean of Father Muller Medical College and senior consultant physician at FMMCH, was the chief guest.

The Clinical Society Meet is a hallmark academic forum at Father Muller, promoting multidisciplinary learning, clinical excellence, and medical camaraderie. This year’s event also honoured an eminent doctor within the institution for exceptional contribution to patient care and the FMCI legacy.
In his address, Dr Alva expressed gratitude for the honour bestowed upon him. “I am humbled to be recognised on this special day,” he said, thanking his patients, colleagues, and parents, with a special tribute to his father. He recalled the values instilled by three teachers who shaped his academic journey and encouraged young doctors to lead with integrity and hard work. “Wealth may follow, but service and unity must lead,” he added.
In his presidential address, Fr Lobo acknowledged the invaluable role of doctors across the world and appreciated the FMCI medical faculty for upholding the legacy of compassionate care. “At Father Muller, treatment and care transcend all boundaries. God is the divine healer, but it is through the hands of doctors that this healing is made manifest,” he said.
New magnetic faculty badges were unveiled on the occasion and symbolically presented to the doctors from the management.
The event was organised by Dr Sunayana Bhat, professor and unit head, ophthalmology, and chairperson of the Clinical Society 2024–25, along with Dr Sarita R J Lobo, head of the department, and other faculty members. Dr Madhurima Nayak delivered the vote of thanks, while Dr Dilon Noronha compered the programme.
The event was graced by the presence of Fr George Jeevan Sequeira, administrator; Dr Antony Sylvan D’Souza, dean, FMMC; Dr B M Venkatesh, vice dean; Dr Uday Kumar, medical superintendent; Dr Kishan Shetty, deputy medical superintendent; Dr Kiran Shetty, additional MS, and heads of various departments.
The celebration concluded on a lighter note with spot games conducted by Dr May D’Souza, which brought cheer among faculty and staff. A fellowship lunch followed, marking a reflective and rejuvenating Doctors’ Day at FMCI.
