Udupi: Body of nurse Hazel Mathias expected to arrive on Monti Fest

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Sep 3: As many as 46 days have passed since the mysterious death of nurse Hazel Mathias, a native of Shirva near here, who used to work in Al Miqua government hospital of Saudi Arabia. The quotation for the ticket for the transportation of the body is given to the hospital. Once the hospital remits the mentioned amount, preparations will be made to despatch the body to India.

Dennis Noronha, who has the power of attorney on behalf of Hazel is completely engrossed in the process of getting Hazel's body back to India.

Dream of settling down in native crashed forever

Hazel had come down to India for the Monti Fest in September 2017. She had a nice time with her family and also partook in the housewarming ceremony of their new house built in Kutyar. She went to Saudi, with the intention of coming back to India for good during this year's Monti Fest, which is round the corner. But the cruel fate has made Hazel arrive in the form of a dead body during the same time.

Hazel's parents are remembering, with teary eyes, the good time they spent with their loving daughter Hazel during the last Monti Fest. The family is completely shattered as the Monti Fest is a family feast and they have lost one of the beloved members of their clan.

Why the body is still retained if post-mortem is not needed?

As per the Saudi law, if the accused accepts his crime, there is no need to conduct the post-mortem of the body. Even then why the body is not repatriated and the family members of Hazel are made to wait in agony for the funeral of their loving daughter. The body is repatriated to the native place of the deceased after completing all the process related to finance and the visa cancellation as per the Saudi law. This takes a long time and there is no definite date that is given by the Saudi authorities.

The family members of Hazel are saying that the body could have been repatriated and the rest of the process could have been completed with the power of attorney, who is present in Saudi Arabia. However, there is no one to listen to the just request of the family. The well-wishers of the family urged that a clear policy should be put in place between the central and foreign governments and no one should face the ordeal that the family of Hazel has undergone.

MP Shobha did not visit Hazel's house!

MP Shobha Karandlaje had come for the inauguration of a road at Kalathur Chandranagar, which is just five kilometres away from the family home of Hazel. However, it is very surprising that the MP did not visit the bereaved family members. The well-wishers of Hazel's family expressed their unhappiness over Shobha and said that as an MP she should have visited the family and updated the action taken by the central government with regards to the repatriation of the body of deceased Hazel. However, it is really unfortunate that Shobha totally ignored the plight of the family and did not visit them at all.

It is very sad the body of nurse Hazel Mathias has taken more than 45 days to be repatriated to India. But the Saudi government and other Middle East countries have their own rules and regulations which no one can go above that. I feel sorry for her family members who are going through such agony and frustrations. Only God can give them peace and solace. I hope her body will come at the earliest and the funeral will take place in peace and harmony.

my deepest condolences to the bereaved family.

The fact that the family neither can celebrate this year not the coming year should be saddening enough for any self respecting Christian family. People living in KSA are well aware of the Indian Government inability to protect the rights of it citizens there. Only those who have been there know the situation.
