Udupi: Hazel Mathias death - accused confesses to crime in Saudi, dispatch of body delayed

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Aug 21: Sources in Saudi Arabia said that a Saudi national who allegedly was responsible for nurse from Shirva, Hazel Mathias, taking a decision to commit suicide, has confessed to his crime.

As per reports, Hazel from Shirva, working as nurse in a government-run hospital at Al Miqua in Saudi Arabia, had ended her life, having been frustrated by the steadfast advances of a Saudi national. Before ending her life, she had left death note in Konkani and English, explaining in detail the harassment she suffered at the hands of the accused.

The police, who conducted investigation on the basis of the suicide note, had arrested the man concerned. As per the orders of the court, the person concerned will now be given sentence as per Saudi law.

As the accused has confessed to his crime, and this being a case of suicide, it is learnt that post-mortem examination would not be necessary. The case has been investigated by the court, and reports from court, hospital and police departments are ready, and their English translations too have been kept ready, it is learnt. These documents are needed for insurance and other purposes.

As the mortal remains have to be brought to India by changing three flights, it will be sent as soon as ticket is arranged. Because of the intervening five-day Bakrid holidays, the process of dispatch will be further delayed, and the body might reach here only by the month end, sources say.

I think the story still appears incomplete. What was so bad that forced a person to end life. The point is not clear.

    Dear All,
I see a lot of comments are being made without knowing the correct source of information. People are making stories based on what others say and talk. I am sure the Judge in KSA must have done given judgment based on the facts placed in front of him. Police and the inmates found her hanging herself in the terrace of her accommodation (there are witnesses to this and a handwritten note in Konkani and English) Based on her suicide note an inquiry was conducted and a case was filed on a Saudi national for sexual harassment and blackmailing and getting money from her. No doubt Saudi courts will punish him based on the law of the land. We need to appreciate the authorities for that. Those who still doubt should get a copy of this note and confirm the handwriting of Hazel!

Note : We learnt that the Saudi national was a security guard who was allowed to drive the ambulance where he met and befriended Hazel initially during a emergency trip!

Based on this background, we need to think why she visited 2 weeks on emergency vacation few days before her death(Eid holidays-June). I am sure her husband should be knowing in and out of this story and I wonder why he allowed her to go back to Saudi if he cared for her and loved her!

Hope the above facts will clear many doubts ( not all I know). Let us help the family in getting her body back to India and full fill the final rights.

Her death is real mysterious because of many reasons. If she was being harassed by Saudi then why she kept suffering for so long and not confide this to her colleagues, husband, or higher authorities; secondly, Is she working under that saudi, if so why she did not report to higher authorities as she was under Ministry of Health. If she was getting harassment then why she did not leave that job, why she went on vacation twice in six months. To take such a step of sucide hw much she might have thought thousands times. If she want to sucide, why she has done far away from her family, is she having any problems with her family. What made her to take such a drastic step of ending her life just after talking to her family on same day of her sucide.
There is much more to think of her mysterious death.

It sounds very mysterious as to why she kept suffering for so long and not confide this to her colleagues, husband, or higher authorities; secondly, what made her stop from immediately returning back since it's a govt run hospital?
There is much more than meets the eye!!!

Now the Saudi court has said, the death of nurse Hazel Mathias is suicide. As per the court, the Saudi national has advanced towards her and continuous harassment is done by the guilty Saudi national. Without understanding the local Saudi national mindset, please do not on assumption, comment here.

I will still say, the death is under mysterious circumstances. Out side the world, it may show as suicide. Before her burial in India, hope her family members will conduct post-mortem examination, at least in 2 hospitals. It may put some light on the death, whether it is suicide or death under mysterious circumstances. For me, I can bet, her death may not be suicide.

Definitely, experienced nurse will have better chance in Europe/Western countries, but conditions depends on the hospital management. Secondly, in the middle east, the sponsor/employer holds the passport of the employee and when the Indian people approach our own Indian embassy, even our Indian embassy treat the nationals without any respect, do not encourage them, stand besides them; specially in Saudi Arabia. It is always the Indian people support each other.

Saudi Arabia government will punish the person even though he has not murdered Hazel Mathias but in India so many are roaming free even though they murdered or harassed the people.

Jhanavi..very easy to comment. Did you know what this lady has undergone? It's better not to comment without knowing the facts. People tend to commit suicide when they find that there is no other alternative. We all know suicide is not the only solution but the person who commits suicide doesn't think all that. Regarding earning money in India, who are you to decide? Do you think there is no harassment at work place? India has become famous for rapes thanks to our politicians and their chelas. Many MLA's/MP's and their supporters who have committed rapes are roaming around freely.

Well said only few people can think situation in different angle if she took extreme step means maybe she was helpless if she could sure would have something I guess. we all know money is not everything if someone is working in abroad it doesn't mean he/she behind the money maybe want bright future or want to give bright future for their kids and whole family. If we compare nowadays these kind of things happening in India more than Saudi.
