'Heartbroken' Messi fan in Kerala found dead 3 days after going missing

Kottayam, Jun 24: Unable to bear the thrashing Argentina received at the hands of Croatia late on Thursday June 21, a diehard Lionel Messi fan who went missing, was found dead on the banks of the Meenachil river in Kottayam district on Sunday June 24. He had left behind a suicide note saying he had nothing to look forward to now.

A team of police divers and locals on Friday June 22 searched the Meenachil river that flows by Arumannoor but were unable to trace the body. However, the body was recovered from Meenachil river at Illikkal on Sunday and his relatives identified his body on the basis of his chain.

Binu Alex, 30, who was last seen watching the FIFA World Cup match, according to his parents, went missing from the house since 4 am on June 23, a police officer, who did not want to be named, told. "A quick search revealed a suicide note in which he says he is leaving the world as he has nothing more to watch and see," said the officer.

A close relative of Alex said that he was a hardcore Messi fan and his mobile phone had a picture of the Argentinian captain as the wallpaper. "He had purchased a T-shirt like the one worn by Messi and sat down to watch the match. In the morning when his mother got up at 4 am to prepare food for Alex, she saw that the back door of the kitchen was open and immediately called her husband. They then went to check on Alex and found that he was missing," said the relative, adding that police was called then.

Earleir police arrived with a sniffer dog who ran towards the river which is flowing in full spate on account of the rains in the past few days. Some divers searched in the water but failed to find the body. However his body was found on Sunday morning.

Alex was unmarried and worked as an accountant in a private company here.

Sad for the parents. Son loved an unseen, unmet person, but nit his parents who took care of him for so long. Wonder what he is going to say when he comes face to face with the creator.

While I say RIP, it was unwise of Binu to have ignored the face of your parents.

Suspect there was betting involved. A 30 year old man committing suicide for a foreign team, and a game in which India is no where near world cup teams. There must be some other reasons!

There is a saying in kannada "athiyadare amruthavu visha'. Similarly any passion or obsession is not worthy. In this case also this gentleman just killed himself without realizing the pain that he would leave to his parents and other friends. So the bottomline is control your emotions.

Messi has made millions and he is least bothered about his fan committing suicide. This fool has given unbearable loss to his parents. Useless fellow. But still I pray for his soul.

Should we die for anyone if we are their fans? All Politicians, players, stars or celebrities are common people like all others but we make them God. We don't recognize our talents so we think others are great. We should respect ourselves and our lives but don't be a selfish.
