Beltangady: Driver's video on KSRTC Dharmasthala's pathetic condition goes viral

Daijiworld Media Network - Beltangady (SP)

Beltangady, Jun 6: A video shot by Ramesh, a driver attached to Dharmasthala depot of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has gone viral. The video, which is widely circulated, has forced top officials of the corporation to sit up, take notice, and visit Dharmasthala to see the situation themselves.

"The depot lacks even basic amenities. The drivers are asked to drive buses that are not in good condition. The depot does not have water even for the conductors and drivers to wash their faces. Sinks are filled with cockroaches. Drivers are compelled to wash their buses, and toilets are stinking. Resoled tyres are being used for buses, and in case of damage, conductors, drivers, and mechanical staff, are forced to compensate the loss. When someone speaks up about the problems, they are threatened of dismissal from service. The staff members are forced to contend with these problems and carry on with their work," the video explains.

The driver has pointed out that the old diesel machine has become non-functional and it takes hours to fill diesel. At the same time, the new diesel machine that had arrived long back is waiting to be fitted, he has explained.

The staff here also suffer on account of garbage dump in front of the depot door and lack of canteen facility.

Deputy chief mechanical engineer of KSRTC and divisional mechanical engineer of KSRTC visited the depot after noticing the video's popularity to take stock of the actual situation here. Depot manager of Dharmasthala, Papa Nayak, said that in natural course, some things have become old and hence functioning has become a little sluggish.

He said that expansion of the depot has been undertaken at a cost of Rs 1 crore and the same would be completed by the month end. He however said that disciplinary action would be initiated against those who shot the video in question inside the depot without obtaining prior permission.

I think Papa is not running his Papa's business. Public have every right for transparency. In a digital era, one can see everything through google maps with sophisticated app. A teenager can take better pictures of KSRTC premises by a toy drone and upload it in a Youtube. We are not in our Papa's age anymore.

Depot manager of Dharmasthala, Papa Nayak, shall be terminated at the first stance. What morality do he have to say" action will be taken..............shot". In his capacity as depot Manager, he has not done his job and those who made it public are guilty? Shame on you Nayak. If not terminated, resign and go Himalaya to hid your self.

@ Jenifer: Hats off to you and your thoughts and gesture.. We all need to be concerned about our fellow beings.. its a shame when we ignore the unfortunate situation and circumstances that others around us live in despite knowing that they are suffering. It does not matter how little we have, its always more than what someone else around us has and we need to respect that thought. We as humans should first start living as human beings

    K S R T C buses have monopoly in Dharmasthala.

If private buses come with devotees to Dharmasthala from far and wide, KSRTC will wake up.

Papi Nayak wants to hide everything from public, in spite of KSRTC being a public service.

Many skeletons will spill over if he will be investigated soon.

I personally spoke to KSRTC drivers, many years back and all spoke same victimization stories.

I even suggested them to join VRL transport.

Papa Nayak must be dismissed first for not doing his duty. Instead of rectifying the problems, he wants to take action against those shot the video.

Last year I had visited RTO office in Mangalore and I was dumbstruck to see age old seats, fans filled with thick layer of dust and spider webs, no ventilation, ugly looking walls. Are we living in a smart city? So much revenue is collected by the RTO but interior is in such pathetic condition. I request the free lance reporters to report this only then the authorities will be awakened from their sleep.

we all may have to ensure Ramesh doesn't lose his job. Usually in such scenarios , especially govt organizations, if any body raise voice, then for outside world organization will show a positive response, responding and all , but at the back end, the person who exposed will be given some punishment, either losing their job or put some allegation and send home or block all future benefits...

so, when we all say Good Job Ramesh... we should support him through out.

This is the truth of any Govt run institution.

If we see any new Govt building opened will start stinking within one year due to lack of maintenance or due to carelessness.

This is the case of any Govt Bus stand, town municipality office, city corporation office, railway station, Govt Hospital, tax offices etc.

Lack of intent is the main reason for this situation. The officer in charge does not take initiative in this regard.

Periodic inspection and online complaint system should be incorporated and quick action should be taken when ever there is complaints.

@sri-elder karkala,it has nothing to do with politiciansor politic. It depends on purely on organization,or heads ,how good they are to take care of their jobs, check the depots, what is missing,in what conditions are the buses,a responsible job carrying hundreds of people and their safety;their drivers. If drivers are having a good buses maintained good it is a name to the karnataka govt.buses.Here seems to be nobody is worried.Only cash their pay and go .Now the hidden things are public,he wants to punish the video taker instead of thanking him and take immediate steps to do better.I dont think he will come further if video taker will be punished.Afterall there are lawyers too and important public, traveller.Dont allow him down dear public.

If KSRTC wants to make money, it should replace all city-buses in Mangalore city by KSRTC buses. Yesterday I saw with great humiliation, a conductor in bus No. 3 headed to Vamanjoor, abusing a middle-aged woman who boarded the bus with two heavy bags, and took a seat. She sincerely told the conductor that she has no money for ticket for which the man told her to set walking, not board a bus, if she has no money. I had no time to react and offer to buy her a ticket by the time she had already got down and the bus moved forward.

I could not forgive myself for not helping her, the entire day, could not get myself to eat my meals. Sorry, maam, wherever you are, hope you reached your destination. Let God give me one more chance to help people in such situation because it could be me next time.

Happened many a times with me earlier. In the fraction of time in deciding to help, we lose that opportunity to help and worry throughout the day.
Now, I do things instantaneously...sometimes the offers get rejected leading to a slight humiliation in public, but that's okay, most of the times the help is accepted.
