Mangaluru, Feb 9: An ordinary day at Mangaluru International Airport turned into a touching reminder of integrity when a trolley retriever ensured that a misplaced gold bangle reached safe hands, refusing to profit from someone else’s loss.
Lawrence Pereira, who has been working at the airport for the past 17 years, noticed a yellow metal bangle lying unnoticed beneath a stack of trolleys at the curbside passenger alighting point. In the bustle of arriving travellers, the ornament had apparently slipped away from its owner.

Without a second thought, Pereira picked it up and immediately handed it over to the Duty Terminal Manager for safekeeping.
Speaking to daijiworld.com, Pereira humbly explained the principle that has guided him all these years. “What we earn is enough for us. We don’t need someone else’s money. Not only this bangle, even if I find any small item, I always hand it over to the concerned officer,” he said.
His simple yet powerful words reflect a value system that goes beyond duty. Colleagues describe him as a sincere worker who has always placed honesty above everything else during his long years of service at the airport.
Airport authorities appreciated his presence of mind and integrity, stating that such acts strengthen passengers’ trust in the institution. In an era where stories of lost belongings often end differently, Pereira’s gesture stood out as an example of responsibility and service from the heart.
A small moment at the trolley bay thus became a big lesson in ethics — proving that honesty still lives in everyday people.
