Shimla: Himachal Pradesh govt honours Sr Jacintha Noronha, releases her postal stamp

By Gerald Pinto

Shimla, Jun 4: Releasing the postal stamp in the honour of a person is a rare incident that too when the person is alive. This honour has come from BJP Government of Himachal Pradesh. The postal department of Shimla recently felicitated Sr Jacintha Noronha by issuing a ‘my stamp’ in her honour in recognition her service to education.

Sr Jacintha Noronha came to Shimla in the year 1994 and since then she has been serving the people of Himachal Pradesh tirelessly with her tireless service.

Having headed Sacred Heart Tara Hall for fifteen long years, her farsightedness bore fruit as she opened the portals of Sacred Heart Dhalli, giving the people of Sanjauli, Dhalli and the neighbouring colonies a co-ed school idyll for their wards providing quality education.

A first cover of Sacred Heart Convent Dhalli to commemorate the completion of 10 years of this institution was also released on the occasion. It was a small token of appreciation by the members of the school members of the school management committee to express their appreciation and gratitude to her.

Sr Jacintha Noronha is the second among the six children of late Denis and Christine Noronha of Shankarapura in Udupi district.

We are very proud of Sr. Jessy for this achievement and more so because she is indeed our cousin sister from Shnkarpura, Udupi. Jessy, as we used to fondly call her during our childhood days when we grew up together, is my mom's sister's daughter and when most of us went around the world exploring and in search of name, fame and money, Jessy went to Shimla as a Sister and devoted her entire life for the upliftment of poor people and their education and wellbeing. With her charm and charisma, she was able to befriend people and help them offer the best education they can get. It is such a noble deed that makes Noronha family and all Mangaloreans very proud of her.

it will be a shame if the Christians do not congratulate the BJP govt on this.
They dont need to honour any christians, as anyway they wont vote for them.

Mahesh...you are opening a can of worms when all were congratulating a yeomen service rendered by dedicated nun. Their dedication has nothing to do with any political party but their love for humanity driven by their faith. If BJP run government is honoring her, I don't think it is something great but very normal. While thanking BJP, one has to be very cautious of their move. It is rare that BJP will honor someone without an ulterior motive. If that is not the case, may God bless them.

Just think it over. "one recognition or few recognitions VS few attacks or countless attacks on Christians" Can you site some BAD examples that Christian community has done in our country to anyone!

How are you so sure that Christians do not vote for BJP...
Your statement alienates those christians who vote for BJP...
HOWEVER, I am among those who vote on the merits of a candidate irrespective of affiliations of party, caste, religion etc...
Please - be considerate of such voters....

On what basis you say Christians don’t vote BJP? In 2014 elections a good majority of Mangalorean Christians in Mumbai had openly supported and voted Gopal Shetty of BJP because he is the son of the soil. Many Christians also supported BJP when Mr. Vajpayee was PM. Christians do not have any apprehensions to vote for a broadminded, moderate, respectable candidate irrespective of his party affiliations. Even in recent elections in Karnataka more Christians would have voted BJP if Yeddyurappa was not CM candidate.
