Udupi, May 15: “The total turn out on the day of election for voting in Udupi district was 78.87%. The total number of voters in Udupi are 7,83,315 consisting of 3,69,015 male and 4,14,298 female voters with two in other category,” said deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis in a press meet here at DC meeting hall, Rajathadri Manipal on Monday, May 14.

“There are 8176 voters who are physically-challenged in the district. Out of which 2851 of them came to cast their vote. Special polling booths were arranged for physical-challenged voters at Thekkatte where the total polling percentage was 87.26%. Earlier it was 85.51% polling in 2013.

“In ten pink booths, over 3871 women voters and 3461 men cast their votes. There were three ethnic polling booths in the district where a total of 1061 men and 1029 women exercised their right to vote.

“The election counting will take place at TA Pai English Medium School, Kunjibettu here. All necessary arrangements have been made for the security purpose. The counting process will start at 8 am.

“The randomization process of electorate supervisors will begin at 6 am. There will be 14 chairs and one table at the counting room. There are 155 service voters in the district.

“There will be 90 counting supervisors, 90 assistants for counting, 90 micro observers and tabulation and other 30 staff for getting details of voting result and other works. In total, the EC has appointed 300 officials and staff for counting. The Election Commissions has made all the security arrangements for peaceful counting.

“The vote counting of the constituency will come out on time and the details of winning candidates will be announced. The last round details will be released and the election commissioner will announce the winning candidates.

“The Election Code of Conduct is in force to maintain the law and order. We have not allowed any kind of ‘vijayotsava’ or bursting crackers on May 15 from 10 am to May 17 till 5 pm. If anyone violates section 144, police will deal with it strictly,” she added.
