Udupi: District Muslim Okkoota to hold protest seeking justice for Kathua rape victim on Apr 24

Udupi, Apr 22: District Muslim Okkoota will organise ‘Walking with Light’, a protest condemning the rape and murder of 8-year-old girl on April 24, informed Abdul Azeez Udyavar, convenor of the programme, at Udupi press club on Sunday, April 22.

Addressing media, he said, “Prior to the protest, a procession will be carried out in the evening on the same day at 6.30 pm, which will start from Bhujanga park, Ajjarkad. Followed by the procession, a protest meet will be held at Chitharanjan circle, Udupi.

“The protest will be held in association with Karnataka Dalit Sangarsha samiti Okkoota, Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike, International Christian organizations Okkoota, Catholic Sabha, CITU, and Dalita Damanithara Svabhimani Horata Samiti.

“Rape cases are steadily increasing these days. It is worrying matter. Recently, a girl from Kathua of Jammu was raped and murdered. A father from Uttar Pradesh was killed inside the lockup, while fighting to get justice for his daughter in a rape case. Communal powers are standing with accused upholding communalism. Rape on minor girls have made us bow our head in shame. The accused must be punished.

“Women are worshipped as God in India, but these inhuman activities are effecting badly on society and the country. Condemning these increased rape and violence against women cases, members of different organizations have decided to stage a protest pressurizing the government to take severe against culprits.

“Noted Sandalwood actor and social worker Prakash Rai, state chief secretary of DSS Mavalli Shankar, state secretary of Komu Sauharda Vedike K L Ashok, district Muslim Okkoota Muhammed Yasin Malpe, eminent writer Vaidehi, Koraga community welfare committee president Susheela Nada, journalist Sabiha Fathima, parish priest Fr William Martis, Dalit committee leader Sundar Master, Shyamaraj Birthi, thinker G Rajshekhar, CITU district president Vishwanath Rai and others will participate in the public meeting,” he said.

District Muslim Okkoota Muhammed Yasin Malpe, parish priest Fr William Martis, Dalit committee leader Sundar Master, thinker G Rajshekhar, Prashanth Jathanna, Kalkatta Ruzvi and others were present.
