Mysuru: Two drown during immersion of Ganesha idol

Mysuru, Sep 3: Two persons drowned in a pond during the immersion of the idol of Lord Ganesha at Vijikoppalu village in Periyapatna taluk in the district on Saturday September 2 morning.

The deceased were Mahesh (25) and Manjunath (17), both from Vijikoppalu village. Manjunath was a first year BCom degree course student at Vidyavikasa college, Periyapatna. Mahesh worked in a hardware shop at nearby Kushalnagar.

The incident happened when the idol of Lord Ganesha installed and worshipped in their village was taken in a procession and was being discharged into Muddikatte pond at about 8 am on Saturday.

Police circle inspector from Periyapatna arrived at the spot later and arranged to retrieve the bodies with help from locals. The bodies were handed over to the families after postmortem. A case about the accident was registered in Periyapatna police station.
