Bengaluru: Pro-Kannada activists go ahead with crusade against Hindi in metros

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jul 20: In a fresh bout of renewed activism against the so-called imposition of Hindi on Kannadigas, activists have turned their ire against writings in Hindi in Namma Metro stations. A number of boards appearing in Hindi alphabet were seen to have been defaced.

Hindi boards were seen to have been painted black in several metro stations including Peenya, Yeshwantpur, Chikkapete, Jayanagara, and Rajajnagara among others. Only sections of the boards appearing in Hindi were targetted early morning on Thursday July 20.

It is gathered that when some people tried to obliterate Hindi boards at MG Road station of Namma metro, they were taken into custody by security personnel. As per eyewitness accounts, about ten activists came to the M G Road station holding placards and banners in hand and approached the station at about 2.30 am on Thursday. The police personnel posted at the station immediately pounced into action and took the activists into custody before they could do the damage. The placards and banners waved by them resented forcible imposition of Hindi on people living in Bengaluru.

NO ONE IS IMPOSING ENGLISH....THERE ARE NO ENGLISHMEN IN INDIA TO IMPOSE ENGLISH....PEOPLE LEARN ENGLISH VOLUNTARILY BECAUSE OF NECESSITY FOR ENGLISH KNOWLEDGE....BUT CENTRAL GOVERNMENT IS IMPOSING HINDI ON US, WHEN THERE IS NO NECESSITY FOR US TO LEARN HINDI.

We require one language to keep multi cultural country like India united. Hindi is easiest language and thanks to Bollywood for making it people friendly language. Even Arabs and many westerners speak Hindi language better than me. We can not make Bengali,Bhojpuri,Tamil or Kannada a national language. These politicians getting crazy ideas just before the election to play with emotions of some Kannadigas as a vote bank. "Viparitha kaladalli viparitha buddhi " This is all Doberata by politicians to woo the voters.

India has 23 national languages not just Hindi. Hindi is spoken in most backward (yet big) parts of India. Hindi literature is less developed than Marathi,Bengali, Tamil etc. Moreover can we imagine Delhi Metro having signs in English,Hindi and Tamil?

Though Hindi is not a national language it is widely spoken and understood by large number of Indians and nobody resented it until it was forced by North Indian politicians. Actually Bollywood should be thanked for spreading Hindi throughout the world. Politicians and narrow-minded non-Hindi speakers are spoiling the trend. We must have our own unifying language besides English and presently it can only be Hindi.

What an Irony! English is OK for these people but they can not digest Hindi, they should have understand that we the people from Mangalore, Udupi, Kansaragodu and Madikeri are not Kannadigas originally we are Tuluvas and they are Kodavas. But we have been imposed Kannada language since child wood. Because of this Tulu a Dravidian Language like Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada could not grow to that high.

I have a colleague here in Dubai she has born and raised in Blore, unfortunately, she can not speak Kannada only she can understand, I was like we being Tuluvas we know Kannada better than her.

One of my frined said who used to work in Blore that if you speak Kannada with a bus conductor in Blore he is like "Sir Talk me in English I also can Talk in English" I was like LOL..

These people should first go and educate Kannadigas from Bangalore.

Any ways imposing any language on anyone in India is not completely right, sometimes I feel India should have a common language which is originally from India.

Do you guys have anything in Mind??

This happens only when the jobless jokers are supported by the Government which is in power in the state for it's political gains. Demand for separate flag, separate language is the political game which is played by the state government. If anyone go outside of Karnataka or India or within Karnataka itself , people prefer to speak in English or else in Hindi. These brainless people doesn't know what they are doing. These people are enjoying lavish life by the huge money paid by the Hindi speaking people as house rent & doing the drama on the streets. I prefer Hindi or English over any other regional languages, because i myself know the value of Hindi when we go out of the state or abroad.

As per Article 343 of the Constitution of India, Hindi is ONLY one of the 22 official languages of India. Hindi imposition is illegal and unacceptable in non-hindi speaking states as it's NOT a National language. Currently there are 22 scheduled / official languages in India and we DO NOT have a National Language.

Bangalore is a metropolitan city with people from all over the country visiting. These so called self appointed kannada activists are only damaging the interests of kannada language.

This is another disintegrating issue like the demand for a separate flag for the state. In what way do these traitors think Hindi is imposed on them? What about Tamil signboards in Bangalore and Malayalam in Mangalore? Hindi is taught freely in Govt. schools. People pay to learn languages like French and German. What harm is there in learning the language in schools? Hindi is the fourth largest speaking language in the world. There is possibility of it being the official language in the UN when India attains permanent seat in the Security Council. If such type of hooliganism in the name of language is allowed to continue, what will be the fate of non-Kannada speaking people in the state?

these thugs to be punished severely to mark ourselves different than tamils, a sole state misguided the tamils by their political leaders for the vote bank politics there..where these tamil leaders sends outside their family members to learn hindi and impose/dictate terms to ban hindi to tamil people ...most of Tamil friends argued this as black mail or discremination...SO BEING KANNADIGAS WE SHOULD HAVE NATIONAL INTEGRITY AND RESPECT MASTER TO GET RESPECT YOURSELF!!

iyengars who migrated from TN to Mysore about 1000 years back still speak Tamil at home...

how come tuluvasa became kannadigas in Kundapur? did British government or any king or any religious person converted them from tuluva to kannadiga?

People from Karnataka are fed up with North Indians because they come to Karnataka and comment against Kannada and Karnataka. If any one speaks against ur mother tongue in their home town obviously ppl ll b get angry. This is reason it all started. Ppl who come to study to Karnataka even if they stay here for 4yrs(eng) or 5.5 years(mbbs) they still don't know to pronounce Kannada. Wt do u tell for these ppl. Atleast they can attempt to speak. Atleast they can attempt or respect our language and our state. So according to ur logic if any one comment against any other Indian language should also b called as desh drohis?? It's totally fine to stay in Karnataka for short period and not learn Kannada it's your choice, but Yeah they should respect the people and the language, I was in Mumbai and nobody asked me to learn Marati there, As I mentioned above ask the Kannadigas to talk and respect the Kannada first. It hardly matters to us Tuluvas frankly speaking.

People were yelling when Malayalam was imposing in Kasaragod but I was like chill its one and the same for us before it was Kannada now Malayalam, we the Tuluvas are literally grinding from both the sides. God knows when this will come to an end.

I did not disrespect Tulu when I fist came to mangalore rather i started learning the language. If anyone start respecting a particular thing they automatically learn. My point is atleast respect the culture when u come from outside.
