Mangaluru, Apr 8: Mohammed Irshad, brother of Ahmed Qureshi who was allegedly tortured in custody by the CCB police, on Saturday April 8 claimed that Ahmed was innocent and that he had been illegally arrested and tortured.

Addressing a press meet here, Irshad said, "On March 21, CCB police illegally arrested my brother Ahmed Qureshi. He suffered atrocities at the hands of the police, resulting in faliure of one of his kidneys.

"I am confident that my brother is innocent and he did not indulge in any kind of illegal activities. We seek justice for my brother and also demand immediate suspension of CCB inspector Sunil Naik, and sub-inspector, Shyam Sundar, and others. Qureshi was admitted to Wenlock hospital, where even the doctors claimed that one of his kidneys has not been functional.

"He was arrested from near the district court complex on March 21 by the police on the pretext of questioning. He was kept in illegal confinement from March 21 to 27, and tortured. He was threatened of encounter. On March 21, he visited the court in the morning for case hearing but in the afternoon he was illegally arrested by the CCB police. As he did not turn up in the court for further hearing that afternoon (due to the arrest), the court issued a search warrant against him. But the police have paid no respect for that.

"On March 26, I recieved a call from the police that Ahmed would be produced in the court on March 27. They did not produce him in the open court, instead they produced him before a judge. Later when his condition turned critical they took him to Wenlock hospital for medication but did not get him admitted there. Then with the help of the lawyer, we met Ahmed and managed to admit him to Wenlock hospital. Now the court has also issued orders to shift him to a private hospital for futher treatment," Irshad said.

"Even though such a serious incident has occured, none of the ministers chose to raise voice, and neither have they taken stringent action against the police officers who tortured my brother. We urge the government to provide compensation and also to look after his hospital expenses," he added.

When asked about Ahmed's present condition, Irshad said, "He has not yet recovered and is still in critical condition."

Father of Ahmed Qureshi Abubakar and lawyer Ashraf Agnadi were present.

It may be recalled that on April 4, activists of Popular Front of India (PFI) had staged a strong protest against the alleged torture, and were caned by the police. According to the police, the protest was held without permission, and it was also reported that the activists had pelted stones and injured some police personnel, though the PFI refuted the charges later in a press meet. Mangaluru North MLA Mohiuddin Bava has said that as per the DMO's report, Ahmed Qureshi indeed damaged a kidney, and that he has asked the chief minister to order a probe into the matter.

In Congress ruling smart city is now become hum Nagpur of South India. This city is electing BJP since 1991 for 25 years only to remain in headlines for wrong reasons in recent past.
This city needs more smart people than smart city. The city has already reached to flash point were 'Godhra model' can be more eminent.
I would request the Home Minister to reshuffle the entire law enforcement department and even balance of staff from all section of society and religion. Each passing day 'cobra post' sting operation is proved correct.
This is the clear Human right violation and need more attention.

One of the participant in the press conference could have volunteered to donate one of his kidney to the accused, I think that would have garnered more sympathy than their press conference which was more like enacted play

Those who do not approve of vande Mataram and those who do not have nationalism to sing the Jana gana have no right here in India be it for social welfare or health welfare. Infact they have no rights as other deserving Indians.

This Qureshi was supposed to attend court that day anyways.

So this solves one Puzzle that this peace follower has alrady case against him and he is not some random innocent lad.

The main Question now is what is the case going on with this man and for what case was this Qureshi picked up by police ?

Does he also have a excellent track record like his friends of PFI (Katipalla Brothers) who are accused of assaulting a Police on Duty ?

If he has even 10 % of the case like them (Rape, murder etc) I don't think the police have done anything wrong in giving him a lock up treatment. He has to pay for his crime in some way or the other.

If he is indeed innocent and not indulged in any crime in his life, ....police personnel responsible should face the music.

Despite Khangress govt at helm, I have trust in our Police force, they would simply not pick any random innocent for questioning unless he has some background( peaceful protest). No smoke without fire.

Few days back the police commissioner of mangalore was giving a lecture to the students at a function. Where is he now? Everyone know what top police officials speak and what is going on in the police station. Let us assume that he lost one of his kidneys due to police atrocities. Will the accused get his kidney back? The answer is no.

The accused should move the court for compensation. The accused should get compensation from the police officials who are involved in this incident and not from the state.

There are revolutionary changes in arresting culprit and there .....

Medical Check up before and and after arrest if accused complaints of atrocities.

Production of accused to the court with in 24 hrs

and other stringent procedures to get police custody or other things.

How it is happened ?With out legal sanction how could police confined him in undisclosed destination?

The above one point enough to suspend police officials in involved and in the process of confinement the court also involved so it is crystal clear that CCB police officials should be suspended and for atrocities they have to pay heavily .

If this happened 20-30 years back it could be normal and rule are changed drastically with regarding arrest and production of accused in the court etc.

Police have no right to assault and punish any person in custody which only judiciary can execute. As per DMO medical report if the kidney has damaged due to custodial beating then police should be held responsible for custodial police brutality and face consequences. I am sure DMO can clearly analyze and disguise kidney damage due to illness or due to assault unless otherwise issued from Nagpur DMO.

We can only say get well soon...

To be honest kidneys are very much internal organs. How did they injured one of them alone? There must be must be multiple fractures, injuries to nerves, blood vessels, bones etc.

Otherwise I think doctors will attribute it to general problem any other person can also get that..

The Hindutva police goal is to torture Minorities into submission so that they accept the second class citizen status. All the minorities, dalits & adivasis have to unite to rise against the Hindutva terrorism. If we fail to react, India will become Burma for the minorities.

Kidneys can get damaged because of many reasons. Excessive intake of anti-biotics, alcohol consumption while on anti-biotic medication, excessive alcohol intake, Excessive blood sugar, High BP , inflammation resulted by excessive hard exercise, sports injuries etc can cause kidney damage.

Did the doctors say what is the cause of kidney damage?
