Mangaluru, Apr 6: Among the activists of Popular Front of India (PFI) who were arrested for attacking police personnel on duty during their protest against alleged torture of an innocent on Tuesday, 72 were released by the police by granting bail through police stations under relevant provisions. 26 others have been remanded to judicial custody.
98 activists were arrested when they tried to lay siege to the office of the city police commissioner here and engaged in violence during the protest.
Three cases were registered against the arrested persons in the city (south) police station. Late night on Tuesday, the police released 72 of the activists by issuing them bail through the police station. The other 26 were produced before the judge after which they were remanded to 14 days judicial custody.
